NightCrawleR's Project ( phase 1: Engine Build / TT )
Hi Guys..
Since alot of changes came up to the project, i thought of starting a new thread with all the mods and lots of pics.
The plan in the begining was just to upgrade from APS ST to GTM Stg-2 TT... when the project started the shop i was doing the build in got interested in a sponsorship deal and thats where the turning point of the project came in... so we decided to have the engine built.
below are the list of mods:
Engine:
o Wiseco Pistons set .020 over-bore VQ35DE
o Eagle 350Z Connecting Rods VQ35DE
o ARP 350Z L19 Head Bolt Kit VQ35DE
o ARP 350Z Main Stud Kit VQ35DE
o ACL 350Z Race Series Connecting Rod Bearing Set - VQ35DE
o ACL 350Z Race Series Main Bearing Set - VQ35DE
o ACL 350Z Race Series Thrust Washers - VQ35DE
o HKS 350Z Metal Head Gaskets VQ35DE
o Rotating assembly balanced.
o JWT C2 Upgraded Cams VQ35DE
o JWT 350Z/G35 Heavy Duty Valve Springs & Shim Kit VQ35DE
o 5 angle radius cut valve job
o Ferrea 350Z Viton Valve Stem Seal Kit - VQ35DE
o Valve Stem Heights set.
o Cold Clearance set for cams.
o Motordyne plenum Spacer.
o Solid engine mounts.
o South-Bend XD –Stage 5- Ceramic Clutch kit.
o JWT Light-weight flywheel.
o Greddy Oil catch tank.
o Samco hoses.
o NGK spark plugs (1 step colder).
o Nismo thermostat.
o Koyo R-Core Radiator.
o Pathfinder rear cooling kit.
Turbo:
o GTM -Stage 2- Twin turbo (Up to 700-Whp).
o Garrett's Twin Ball-Bearing water & oil cooled turbocharger.
o TiAL 50mm Blow-off Valve.
o GTM 3” down-pipe with Tial 38mm External waste-gate.
o GTM 3” Full Cat-back Exhaust System.
o GTM Racing Oil Cooler.
o CJ Motorsport -Stage 2- Fuel system.
o Deatschwerks 600cc injectors.
o Walbro feul pump.
o AEM Water/Methanol Injection kit.
o Uni-Chip Q+ Engine Management.
o Defi Boost gauge.
o Defi Fuel Pressure gauge.
o Defi Exhaust Temp gauge.
o Defi Controller unit.
o AEM Wideband gauge.
o Blitz turbo timer.
o HKS EVC-6 Boost Controller. ( low 7PSI , high 13psi )
when i finished with the break in for the engine i did a very very conservative tune since the car is still going for a audio setup installation and paint shop. the tuner was very impressed with the results. but the only downside is the LAG.. its sooooo damn laggy.
will let the pics talk.
Before:
After :
Engine Going down :
Stock Engine opened :
Engine bay cleaned for those who hated my dirty first pics
engine cleaned
heads removed :
thats a damn big crank.. i guess its for a boat or something :
list of engine parts:
My engine Code
Getting the hands dirty ( feels sooo good )
thats all for today,,, will update with more pics by tomorrow.
what do you guys think about the lag !!!
would the reason be the cams ?!!! i have got the EVC tuned properly and the tuner said it wont help...
the car goes into full boost on 4000 RMP but when it hits 4000 RPM.. oh good.. its a whole different story.
i know its stage 2.. but didnt expect the lag to be that much...
thoughts. !?/

Forgive my ignorance, as I've not really delved too far into the VQ35 world as of yet (only had my Z a few months at this point), but what is that lovely item?
I'm guessing it's an oil pan of some sort, but it's completely unfamiliar to me. Am I on the right track?

Nobody can complain about lag like Rich lol.
For a log mani setup I'd still expect better spool. I was amazed how "laggy" the aps extreme kit was when compared to my twin 54mm (tube mani). I spooled considerably better.....even with the twin 60's now, I probably still spool better.
Get us some numbers to look at!!!

if you are looking at the boost gauge, you will see it struggling to boost.its starts spooling from 2000+ RPM and once it hits 4000-4500 ( Full boost ) it spools like hell..
i even get wheel spin on 2nd and 3rd. but only above 5000rpm.

Fixed, cant keep spoolin after you hit full boost
you can play with timing and AFR to help with spool. Are you sure your boost controller is optimized. I know the EVCs can be a little tricky to setup. YOu wanna verify its got enough duty cycle to keep the gate shut from 1000 rpms on up.
i thought the stage 2 was a gt30. gt28s are a good bit smaller. i doubt full boost at 3000 rpms unless you were making like under 10psi.
3500 is more realistic on a low compression motor
nah, anytime you increase duration on the cam, you more or less shift the powerband to the right. The stock cams give the most low end trq, but get outflowed past 6500 rpms. Most people will give up some low end for more power past 6500.
i am comparing my car with the old setup.. i could feel the lag on the old setup.. but in this one it is way more...
