Default Garrett compressor covers

Just wanted to get some feedback from those that have experience with the Garrett turbo compressor covers.

I am doing some "experimenting" this weekend so I thought I ask.

Two turbos here. On the left is a cheap knock off with a rather small compressor cover, and just perfect for what I need. On the right is a Precision 5557 turbo with a "B" compressor cover. It is too large for my application. The turbo on the right has a 44.7mm inducer 60mm exducer on the compressor side, making it a 55 trim.

Do you guys know what options Garrett has for compressor covers, for turbos as large as the GT2871R:

Here is a link to the turbo I am refering too, and in the picture it is showing that type of cover. I just don't know what size it would be

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...R_743347_1.htm

If I can get the Garret with the same size compressor cover as the turbo on the left in the first picture, I am golden, and you guys are looking at a bolt on TT kit. No need to remove the motor..

I know that APS had a custom machined cover (very small) for the GT35r turbo they used on the ST kits. So, it is possible but it would be nice if there was something off the shelf.

E cover is more a mid size of the compressor covers. Here is a picture of all 3, top is the small cover I am inquiring about (2.5" inlet 2.0" outlet), (middle is a B cover (2.75" inlet and 2" outlet) and E is at the bottom of the picture. It has a 3.0" inlet and a 2.0" outlet. S is not in that picture, but it would have a 4" inlet and 2.5" outlet.

The botoom turbo with the E cover is a 6262 T4 that I use as a single turbo with my kits.

I think the Garrett GT2871r has an E cover:

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...S_739548_5.htm

That to me looks like a 3" inlet, but the overall size looks like a B...maybe some sort of a hybrid?

Just the simple fact that you are testing and doing stuff yourself and actually respond to feedback.

That's the problem with PTE covers, they tend to be quite big. If you use actual garrett covers then the T04B cover is actually pretty tiny even though it has a 3" inlet. The T04E cover is actually larger than the T04B even though the inlet is 2.75". The link you posted with the GT2871R has the T04B cover, it's the smallest cover I've seen that can house a T04 wheel. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what APS used as well.

The knock off turbo to the left seems to use a T3 cover from what I can tell on the pic which is why it's so small.

Try sending an email to these guys. They know about Garrett stuff and can tell you about sizes and what hybrids are possible.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I have been looking at thse:

Specs:

This one also seem to have a rather small compressor cover:

I just need to make sure that the w/g actuator is bolted on the CHRA side of the compressor, and not on the intake side of the compressor.

I wanted to get going on this this weekend, but it just didn't work out. Wife, both kids and me are sick..some stomach bug or something...sucks.

Those compressor covers are the Nissan style ones. They are tiny, but force you to use special flanges. The wastegate actuator is bolted on to the same bolts that hold the cover to the backplate.

I'd stick with the Garrett T04B cover...it's about as small as you can go.

How is this a Nissan style cover?

http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbob...1847_1_new.pdf

It is a regular B cover..

I would never sell a kit to anybody, if they had to use either one of those tools. That would go against what I am trying to accomplish.

Yeah, that thing is way too big to fit in there without some major mods. The T3 turbine housing takes up a ton of space, and the B cover is too big. I could always do something like this though:
