Default In the name of Science: Vortech Install tomorrow...

Well, despite a bit of nervousness based on the negative feedback I've read from some of the early ATI adopters, I've decided to go ahead with my Vortech supercharger install tomorrow.

Weather permitting, I'll leave the Raleigh early in the AM and drop my car off at Carolina Performance Racing in Charlotte, NC (the kit finally came in this morning!). This is obviously their first 350z Vortech SC kit install and I have the G35 sedan, so it will be interesting to see how it goes. In conversations CPRacing has had with Vortech it sounds like there won't be a whole lot of custom work to do, but you never know.

Bottom line... someone has to step up and see how the Vortech is going to do so it might as well be me.

Fingers crossed...

I wish you the best of luck. I put in my order for the Greddy TT today and hope it works as advertised. I have had freinds with vortech SCs on the their Mustangs and they were very happy. I hope you are also and I look forward to your report.

I've done a lot of research into various customer comments about various companies......the only complaints i've seen about Vortechs are minor ones........unlike ATI, who has enough horror stories to scare the crap out of Stephen King

1. Good luck on the install and the kit. PLEASE post results and impressions.

2. You might want to keep your attention toward the SportZ SC comparision on Dec 13th & 15th. The Vortech is in it heads up against the ATI and Stillen. I got a front row seat and I cannot wait. The ATI has impressive hp/torque at high rpm's and the Stillen has good power throughout the powerband so Vortech has got its work set out for it.

Lets see, we only got about 8 days to go right?

Default First Update...

The "Before" Dyno was done this morning prior to beginning work on the install. I don't know the brand, but the printout says DynoRun so it's presumably a DynoJet.

I'm more concerned about the relative number (i.e. the percentage increase) than "raw" number, but because I know people will ask I'm going to give the raw numbers which are lower than I expected, frankly. They did the dyno in 4th gear, BTW.

217.3 HP
217.9 TQ
AF ratio between 13 and 14 (hard to read)

I don't have the dyno in a format I can upload, but HP dropoff above 5K RPM is noticeable. I wonder if my Injen CAI is actually robbing HP--especially since as far as I know there's not a fan blowing air across the car during a dyno (is there)?

One more thing... my pre-FI A/F ratios are higher than I thought they'd be but I'm a total newbie at this. My understanding is that the kit includes a programmable chip that will help with this. True? False? (Man am I clueless or what!?)

Again, the key is going to be how the "after" numbers compare. Is it true that I want the A/F ratios to be in the 11-12 range?

Feedback welcome.

That would be fun. Maybe you guys can teach a newbie (that would be me) a thing or two about getting a good launch. I've never been to a track/strip.... yet.

Steve,

I can definately speak for all of us NC guys and gals, and we would be VERY interested in seeing the finished product. If you get a chance, how about including a thread in the "Southeast" section to keep us locals updated. I'm sure we can spring together a "mini-meet" in your honor for all of us to drool over it.

Thanks,

Sean

I'd love to be able to check out your ride too! Would also be interested in a meet for it. What about a track meet for it? I've never been to a track either, and it would be cool to see you run against ravaz.

I have been documenting the Vortech install in an Automatic 350z. I do have some pictures but I have not uploaded them yet. Right now things are on hold due to the intercooler piping on the Automatic.
