Default Question on Turbo Components

Hey guys, was curious on a detail of the various turbo systems coming out. One, I obviously will want to do some work before putting a turbo into the car, however I am starting to wondering what exactly these turbos are coming with. For example, are the turbo kits including different plenums or headers so on so forth? Buying a cold air intake obviously would be pissing money away as the thing will get ripped out when the turbo goes in, I just was curious what performance mods to avoid when the long range projection is a turbo setup? Never worked with FI so don't know all that much about the whole systems. I get how the turbo itself works and such but not too keen on the specifics

Sigh... wish I knew a good speedshop down here in SoFlo. I was thinking about talking to Pettit racing (they do RX-7s) but I dunno if that would be amazingly "Hey look at this stupid kid" or not.

well I would hold off on the exhaust, since most aftermarket exhausts prebuilt for the Z are designed for N/A it will be restricting once you go F/I. A good thing if you really want exhaust then get a custom 3"+ exhaust built. Also you should think about wether you are going twin or single turbo because that also plays in on how you should design the exhaust system. If you want cams think ahead and get cams that will compliment the F/I setup. Same thing goes for ECU adjustments. Of course the obvious dont buy intakes or headers because those will be replaced with any turbo kit. Basically you really should get the turbo kit first then do other mods after that.

You can work on your transmission, better clutch, maybe flywheel, lsd. Many performance mods wont help as the turbo kit usually replaces most. Maybe a new plenum might be helpful, but that would be just a little benefit for a turbo setup and maybe a last setup to extract those last few HP/TQ #s.

Awesome thanks guys. I am thinking about going with suspension and drive line modifications first. Coilovers, some brakes (I got a Enthusiast instead of track.) and like you said the clutch and so on. I'll just need to find some decent info on the driveline upgrades ... haven't seen too much about them on the boards. Time for a search. Again thanks,

~Josh
