Sport Z Supercharger Shootout - Done!
Correction.....SportZMagazine is a business that makes its money from advertises, the more subscribers + new readers = more advertisers paying premium rates. What is the point if readers get the final results without having to flip through pages of advertises.
From now till the D(istribution) day, there will be the build-up phase; making public of, even the preliminary results would be an anti-climax
My question is, will the negative results be watered down so as not to outright offend the manufacturer concerned. And, I suppose the winner of the shoot-out will have to pay a premium to use the result of the shoot-out for marketing his product.

SportZ mag, that is pretty lame, Mags are cheap. Most people subscribe just to have something to look at while taking a dump
I'd like to know the resets and I am a subscriber. If someone knows the results and/or doesn't want to post them. Please email them to me.

If you want to say that the results are a secret because you want to have a big scoop for the spring issue and it may drum up some business.........I will respect that.
If you say that 99% of the subscribers to your magazine want to wait until spring to know the results.......and that we would be "angry" if you post the preliminary results here on this forum..........then I will have to call a huge BS on that one.
I am a subscriber and I certainly would not care if you posted the results immediately. You either think we are dim witted and you want us to believe we are in the 1% who want the results posted (since you said 99% of your subscribers want to wait for three months to know the results.....lmao) or you are very much out of touch with the majority of your customer base.
It doesn't really matter.......if more than one person currently knows the results of the shootout, it will soon be public knowledge. The question is whether you want someone else to get the credit for sharing the results or do you want to be the "good guy" this time?........the choice is yours.
If it was me, I would put the preliminary results on the Sport Z site.........which could only be viewed following a tour of the benefits of subscribing to Sport Z.

I dont think they should of posted this completion stuff here. But come on guys, you all really think they were going to post the results? That's why you subscribe! The whole purpose of a magazine is to deliver a perspective on info that you can't normally obtain by yourself, IE this event. They have to offset the cost they paid to get that info, it does not make business sense to publish those results. The people that pay are the ones that play. You all should know better...

Considering that it was a Stillen rep that started this thread about the shootout being completed, I would say that Stillen won at least one event. They probably won the autocross event with their low-end torque and the lack of any high-speed straight-aways.
BTW, I'm a subscriber. I don't care either way if the results are released or not. But hopefully the anticipation of the results will convince more 350Z owners to subscribe so we can get more 350z coverage in the mag!

Does Motortrend magazine publish their article or data prior to the magazine being released or Microsoft release the codes to the public for windows? How about asking TS to release the data for flashing the ECU on line for free?
There is a cost to putting together a shoot out like this. The selling of magazines funds and offsets those costs. I hope you understand that is the nature of the business. If a company does not make money, they can’t produce the product (articles in this case). If data like this is shared on line like some of you want, there will be no future articles because of reduced sales. Then, you will have no shootouts in the future. SportZ magazine is unique because it is focused on one car, the Z. We post on forums because it is a smaller magazine. Try getting the larger magazines to write you personally as much as SportZ does?
I am happy everyone is excited to get the info. We got more good articles in the works and will augment articles like this one. Actually, you might notice I am posting less in the past week. I am already working on the next project. As when I posted so much on this forum, my work at SportZ is to give something back to the Z community. I feel the SC shootout and the current project I am working on are doing just that.
I cannot post the data simply put. It is the property of SportZ magazine and not mine.
Yes, I worked for free for months to help get this going and it is a labor of love for me. I always do things out of passion and love for doing it. No one asked me to do it, I just felt like it needed to be done. As time went on, SportZ and myself were both working on the same project thus the connection between SportZ and me.
Trust me, I am excited to talk about it more than anyone however writing the article and printing it in the magazine is the way it is done. To ask me to print this information on line is something I cannot do. It would be unethical for me to do so.
All I can say is the tests went well, the data will certainly reflect what these cars have to offer, and the impressions provided in the article should bring insight to how these cars perform in real world application to supplement the hard data.

When Car & Driver or MotorTrend does a car review or a shootout, they use their own track, they procure the cars themselves without having to beg on an open forum, and they certainly don't invite the public to attend. In short, they keep their big mouths shut about it until the article is about to be released. In my mind, this event went down WAAYY differently than that.
If you're going to swear everyone to secrecy (according to Stillen), then keep the WHOLE THING a secret. Community is a two-way street.

Not all companies have their own cars they own to test from. They use customers cars to do protoype development. If you followed the history of this project, we had 2 cars drop out in the last week. We felt the article was important to do thus I stepped it up and ask the Z owners themselves to help us out. I most likey worked 30 hours alone on this project in the last week to make it happen. If making money was the object, I could work at McDonalds for more and that is not the point to me at all. I am doing this to give information to Z owners that otherwise would never exist. Ironically, I feel it is odd that i am getting blasted by some of you for working months on this for free to give you guys this information.
If you dont want to have input on future articles, I can certainly never say anything thus you are totally in the dark. Is that really what you want? I assume most people would prefer knowing these projects are in the works.

Well I guess I misunderstood. You see, based on the way the event was announced, publicized, and advertised on this forum I assumed it was more of a community thing than a magazine secret.

I'm going to have to side w/ Sport Z magazine and Jeff on this one. All they did was inform this community about the shootout and yes, they did procure some FI Z's from community members, but this does NOT, in my opinion, entitle this community to the results of the shootout before they are published.
Two questions for Jeff or any Sport Z magazine rep: 1) Do community members get a discount on a Sport Z magazine subscription? 2) Will the shootout article give detailed descriptions of the fuel management and engine/timing management of the different systems to include advantages and disadvantages of each manufacturer's approach to this? In my opinion, and I do not believe I am alone on this, I am far more interested in safety, reliability, and longevity of the FI system and would be willing to pay more for such a system, even if it tested "in last place" in each of the shootout events. Even the "loser" of the shootout events is a 35%-50% improvement from a factory 350Z. Give me the bulletproof fuel and timing management EVERY TIME.

I think the issue here is that the magazine release is SO far away. The Motor Trend and Car & Driver tests usually come out the next month.

2. The focus is this article is a performance shoot out. Reliability and tuning issues are something totally different. Of course, if something about tuning or reliability effected the performance/testing itself, we would address it then because it would be effecting the test performance/results of the data you are reading about.
This brings me to something related which is if you feel you have a topic you think should be considered for an article in SportZ, just pm any writer or employee of SportZ magazine. We will consider it as a possibility.
Jeff

I wanted to go but couldn't so I'm stuck waiting, and I got time.

Those of you giving Bob and company a hassle about when he releases the results should rethink what you say. I completely agree with their decision and I'm not even a subscriber. BUT I am a business savy person and I KNOW that it would be bad for business should they release this info early. C'mon, it's three months, some of you have been waiting 18 months for Greddy to even MAKE the turbo. Waiting three more months to find out if it's worth the wait is nothing.
Also take into consideration as Juztin put it above me, SportZ OWNS the rights to publish this info and make it known WHEN THEY feel like it. Also consider the fact that if not for them there would be NO shoot out to be complaining about, so count yours and my blessings that they even DID have a shootout and that we should only be so lucky as to be able to find out in 3 months.
If you still think they should "spill the beans" (not attacking the person who stated this, just using an example.) then I think you should have to pay for that information. Enough so that it would make it worth S-Z's while to even post it. NO OTHER company would post critical info about their product just for free or just because a few impatient people wanted to know only because THEY wanted to.
Be thankful that the shootout even took place and that you KNOW of a certain release date that the info will be posted. At least they're not leading us on and saying "oh another two more weeks" and the 2 weeks more and then on and on.

I was there for the autocross and the 1/4 mile stuff. It certainly isn't against the rules for me to say what I observed. If Sport Z magazine wanted data taken in secrecy, they could rent out a track for the day like the big magazines do.
I have some observations, not as detailed as you might like, but if you don't like it... skip to the next post. Autocross event was not very telling, almost a wash. I think Procharger busted out the lowest time, but ate four cones in the process. As others speculated, a curvy autocross makes for most of the cars to perform evenly.
1/4 mile, all three did 13.4 to 13.6 (this is hearsay, ie. me asking other people there what times people were busting out) while using one common driver for all cars. Stock Z's did 14.3 and 14.4. at 97 or 98MPH. Then the guy who brought the Z with the Procharger decided to drive one himself and busted out a 13.1. I don't know the trap speed. He did mention that he put a can of octane boost in the car. Don't know if the other cars had the same, or if it made any difference. 1/4 mile stuff was rushed since it was at the end of the day and cars didn't have a chance to cool down between runs. The bling bling 19" rims were hurting the 1/4 mile a little for sure. All the supercharged Z's had 19" rims.
I'm sure the magazine will have a more comprehensive and scientific analysis for the hard to please types

Haha -- zland as paid shill. I like that. Sorry Jeff, but this turned out to be total BS.
