Sport Z Supercharger Shootout - Done!
>>I guarantee the wheels have nothing to do with it. They certainly wouldn't affect the time by more than 0.1 of a second.
Okay, whatever the cause, stock with 17s was 14.3 best case. Stock with 18s was 14.4 best case. All supercharged Z's had 19s and they ranged from 13.4 to 13.6. One run @ 13.1 with another driver on the Procharged Z. No vehicle had any weight reduction at all that was noticable unless you count a carbon fiber hood and bumber on I *think* the Vortec car.
That is all.
Don't drink hatorade right before replying. Just trying to share. That's what this board is about, not withholding data for 3 months for no other reason than to turn a profit.

I agree with McDuck .. certainly you don't consider such people with that view point "peddlers of hate"..
if you are going to keep things secret and have people involved take a "vow of secrecy" then don't publicize it and ask the community in such a open way to help in conducting it.. just do it and publish your results in a fashion that makes the most business sense for you... but the lead up to this was poorly executed... you raised too many hopes... enjoy the holidays

But in any case, at this point I don't really care too much about the winning SC. I just thought the whole thing could have been conducted a little better. And without anyone giving a heads-up, yeah, I guess we did expect some immediate results.
Oh well, I forgive ya, happy Kwanza.

This certainly doesn't apply to slay2k. He knows what I'm saying already obviously.
Look guys, if you want someone to blame for the way it was "hyped" as you call it, them direct your comments to me. READ THAT AGAIN PLEASE! I spoke about it on line because I am excited about it. I love Z's, I love hp. I thought that some of you might appreciate knowing that soon, something would come out that compared these products. If making the type of comments some people are being made is a way of showing appreciation for the effort being made then it is an odd way of showing it.
A while back, I did created a thread for new Z owners stating read this before modding your Z. I made it as a way of one Z owner sharing his experience he learned after 1 year of owning a Z and researching everything about them. One person asked why I would put all that effort into doing that for someone I don’t even know. It is simple, we should be helping each other and building each other up. We all love Z’s; we all want to make our Z's to perform to our personal goals.
I am very thankful SportZ worked with me on this article. By them working on this, many readers will get data they would have never had if they didn't. It takes money and resources to do track, 1/4 mile, and dyno testing on these products. I nor very few of you could do this totally on your own. The best I could have done without SportZ is drive each car from goodwill of other Z owners and give subjective impressions of each which is not accurate data by itself.
Reverse the situation for a minute and think about it. I got personal phone bills for long distant phone calls all over the USA talking to manufactures and car owners. Remember, 90% of the wrok I did on this project was on my own. I started working for SportZ magazine less than a week from the testing date. I was doing this for the sake of the Z community and wanted to share the information with you. SportZ decided to run with the idea and I worked with them on it. Now, looking at it from that perspective, go back and read the comments directed towards me and the ONLY magazine that’s only focus is the Z owner.
A certain amount of people come on line and just read posts or make comments with whatever knowledge base they have at that moment. I took it on my own to do research to try to gauge the performance of SC's on the market. I later began working with SportZ magazine to reach that goal. What are you doing to build up the Z community (this question is directed to those who are so willing to be so critical of others?). It is easy to be critical but more difficult to do something positive. I respect the people the most that do research and whos posts are informative. There are many of you that fit into that group and I have the deepest respect for you.
A magazine has to sell magazines to stay in business. I am sorry if you don’t understand that or agree with it but that is the cold hard facts.
To be honest with you, I am totally comfortable with myself and the way it was done. I am fairly sure that what I am saying here will not change the minds of the few vocal critics on this thread.
We could have not spoke of the testing and we could have not included the Z community. We choose to hoping you would enjoy knowing the information was forth coming. We never promised one line results nor results prior to publication of the article and no magazine I know of does that. I am sure the reactions of a few will tend to make SportZ magazine do testing without knowledge to anyone on these forums. The result of that would be you might be buying a product and then find out a comparision was in the next issue without you knowing about it being published.
Merry Christmas and happy New Years. I am out of the country starting tomorrow. I will be on a hot tropical island and most likely not in reach of a computer.
Now if it makes you feel better, flame me all you want.
Jeff (the bald guy)
PS: Another think to consider is I know of no other magazine that would spend time writing on a forum so much and interact with customers.:

Bob I'm not sure if you were the long haired guy or the bald guy. But let me tell you, the long haired guy needs to defer all questions to the bald guy. Cuz the long haired guy has no people skills. Judging by your response here, you are the long haired guy or you both suck.
People bent over backwards for you, the Procharger car was driven from KANSAS CITY!!! To give no info is fuking weak. Sure you want to make a magazine, okay, throw the dogs a bone though. You gave the audience nothing, after asking for everything from them.

Alright, you got me. Hey I'm even in your mag, p. 10 of Issue 4...
How in the world did that happen?
But in any case, at this point I don't really care too much about the winning SC. I just thought the whole thing could have been conducted a little better. And without anyone giving a heads-up, yeah, I guess we did expect some immediate results.
Art Singer will share with you (everyone) what it takes to organize a shootout. It costs a lot of money to set up the logistics to stage a shootout and throwing away that money just doesn't make sense. Everyone knows that we are a quarterly magazine and immediacy is just not going to happen unless the timing is perfect.
Selling magazines is what we do and giving it away is just plain nuts and a sure path to bankruptcy. You certainly disagree with our marketing efforts, but it takes money to produce a magazine -- that's just the way it is.
Oh well, I forgive ya, happy Kwanza.
Thank you, I think.

Thanks Mikestro for the "short and brief" info... that's all we needed until the magazine comes out in 3 months.
Thanks Sports Z Magazine for setting up the event, without you guys, all these wouldn't be possible....
peace out..

WOW. I dont check this site for a couple of days and I find this.
First off I want to say my car was involved in the Sport Z Magazine shootout.
I volunteered my time and my precious car's time to better serve the Z community and not allow themselves to be guinea pigs in choosing a Supercharger for their Z. I wanted to have an unbiased and fair test performed for all to see.
I am a little displeased with Sport Z magazine. I along with others volunteered our time, drove to San Diego (I live in Los Angeles area 2 hours away. ATI guys drove 22 hours from Kansas!! Vortech and Stock from Valley in CA - 2 1/2 hrs away. I left my house at 6am!!! to be there by 8am on Sat) and spent our entire Sat watching our cars get brutalized on the track and the drag strip. I knew this was going to happen and had no problem with it.
What I didn't realize is that the publisher wouldn't be there; just Jeff. I mean no offense Jeff, you were awesome (and I sincerely mean that, you meant well) but i expected someone who represented Sport Z full time to at least come by and say thank you for all of us that participated, thanks for driving down here, thanks for letting us thrash your car in the autocross, thanks for letting us take off 1/3 of the tread on the tires, anything just as a gesture of thanks. But nothing like this was there. Not even a bucket of ice filled with bottled water, no chairs for us to watch, no real thought out plan. Just a hastily put together plan to test these cars and take advantage of the decent people who willingly provided their vehicles.
In my business I get treated with the utmost respect and decency and treat those who have volunteered time/money/energy with the same respect and I suggest that anyone taking advantage of someone else's property for their benefit should accord those people the same decency. I feel like all of use in the test were not given appreciation or the proper respect.
I wanted nothing more than for someone to say "Sam thanks for your time and use of your vehicle, here is a free subscription to our magazine." A FREE subscription? It costs you nothing!! I don't want a handout and DO NOT need a handout. It would have been a small gesture of appreciation from your company that would have brought some level of satisfaction. Nothing like this was done. Future reference: treat your volunteers with more decency than a common person on the street. Without our cars you wouldn't of had this test.
I wish to thank Stillen and all the gang there for providing drinks for all people involved in the dyno runs on Mon morning. That small gesture went a long way. That is the way you start a relationship with the consumer and a business model to follow for all small companies.
Sport Z magazine: Good luck in your future endeavors, but do not call on me to provide you with anything since you provided me with nothing.
I, at least hope this article provides some insight and knowledge to the Z community in regards to superchargers.
FINAL THOUGHT: SMALL GESTURES OF APPRECIATION GO A LONG WAY.

" guarantee the wheels have nothing to do with it. They certainly wouldn't affect the time by more than 0.1 of a second. How do I know ? Because I've timed myself with 18s and with 19s, and the difference is none."
You should 1/4 with 16's big differenve in ET. Who 1/4's with 19"s?
I think it was a real world unmodified test at least which is good because I track with 16's on DR's and gain .3 tenths.

skk100 (Sam):
I am sorry if i did not make you feel appreciated enough. If anything, I was totally preoccupied with making sure the cars were where they needed to be etc.
I should have thought of bringing an ice chest with snacks and drinks. That is MY error, not anyone elses. The bad luck of having a car wrecked and another not being able to show just hours prior to testing threw me off. I did not want anyone to have to wait for another edition of this magazine to come out with this data thus my total effort in making this test go on schedule even having to find 2 new cars within hours of the test. I was going full tilt to make sure we had everyone there and of course my main concern was making sure we had the best test data as possible.
I better say this right now. Thanks to Sam (Stillen test car), Razz (Vortech car owner), Dorian & Erick (drivers that took the Roger Wrights ATI Z from Kansas city to San Diego), and Ted (Stock Z).
all of you guys were awesome. I wish we had enough time to let you guys ride a lap in each car as tested. It takes a selfless type person to donate the use of your car for the sake of everyone elses gain.
I hope I will see some of you at track day on March 5th. I am looking forward to having a fun day at the track.
Jeff

Oh yeah and by the way thank you Sport Z for making me pay for my girlfriend's entrance fee to the dragstrip (She was in the car with me all the way from Los Angeles to San Diego to Carlsbad). What did you want me to do with her? Make her stay outside on the street corner and wait for me?
Not a money issue, but a repsect and thoughfulness issue.

Jeff,
You do not owe anyone any apoligies.
Thanks for arranging what you did, some of us apreciate it.
Couple things.
Were the car tuned or ran with stock settings?
Were they bone stock exhaust?
Any mechanical problems (no need to mention from whom.)
Any chance of a snippet like here is an example.
The highest HP was 362rwhp but don'r say who?
To me this would want more people to buy the mag not less.
Like seeing a pick of a model on the cover, sometimes you just gotta buy the whole issue ya know?
Thinmk about it you and Robert.
A teser of minutia not naming names would boost sales and squash this debate back and forth.

Jeff,
I have no problem with the way you handled yourself and the test. I appreciated all that you did in helping organize and make the whole thing possible. Sport Z should make you president of the company.
It's just that you are not authorized to make certain decisions and give the proper face time as the editor would be able to give.
It is so important in establishing a repoir with people to have proper face time.
Once again jeff thank you for everything. You shouldn't of had to brought the ice and drinks, chairs, etc. You were all to busy dealing with the task at hand (the test). Maybe Sport Z should look into Internship programs (non paid) for other help during these events.
Anyway thats my 2 cents. lets put it to rest.
