04 350z Vortech V2 - Motor/Boost/Suggestions?
Hey Guys/Gals,
New here but not new to Nissan per say.
I currently have a 1998 Nissan Maxima with a Vortech V2 Intercooled setup making 345 whp tuned by me VIA Emanage Ultimate (stock motor VQ30DEK). Now, Since I have basically everything I need minus some parts I thought id get a 350z and swap out my parts.
Currently what I have on my Maxima:
Vortech V2 ~13.4 PSI (2.62" pulley)
Greddy Intercooler (30 X 12 X 4)
Deatchwerks 600cc Injectors
Aeromotive AFPR 1:1 with boost
Emanage Ultimate
Innovate WideBand + sensor, Autometer Voltage Gauge, Autometer Oil pressure Gauge
Greddy Boost Gauge, Greddy Pyrometer Gauge (has memory recall), Greddy Fuel Pressure Gauge
AEM Meth Kit
Walbro 255
Now I know I can't run that much boost on a 350z so I will get a smaller pulley. I will also probably rebuild the SC as I might upgrade the impeller.

Headers/full exhaust job
Clutch
Maybe another intake manifold/other little N/A mods that help the motor breathe easier.
Now my main question is. I'm getting an 04 350z (hopefully) and well I want to transfer everything over to the z. I don't have any issues with the transfer/work. My Maxima thought me everything and more. I want to know what max PSI people see on a supercharged 350z. Can I do anything that wont require me to do a full build? Maybe some Headstuds? Revup Oil Pump? Nothing major but the motor will be out as I herd Headers are a pain in the *** so i'll pull the motor out and do little beefing up. I don't want to go nuts on the build. Just little things. Later on in its life it will get a full rebuild if necessary.
I figure if the compression is good on the motor then I at least know its still healthy.
Comments? Suggestions?

most on here would probably suggest sell the emanage(not very many like it here) and cut the headers from your build(they arnt really needed till above 500 something, sure they help but not required) and go for a haltech. if you are thinking headstud then i would say hr headstuds and head gasket although again not really needed. no idea what people are running for stock block setups as i went right to big turbo =/

also i would ditch the emanage and tune with osiris
OK so basically, leave the block stock, don't go above 400 torque, headers are hit/miss and go with osiris.
What boost level is required to reach 400whp? 10psi? Rough estimate?

I have over 40,000 miles with the Vortech, some @ 8psi, some @ 10psi, some @ 12psi, some @ 14.5spi and some @ 17psi
Stock kit @ 7-8psi makes 320-330 RWHP
10.0psi @ 6600rpm with modifications was 394.2 RWHP and 330.5 RWTQ
14.5psi @ 7100rpm with more modifications was 447 RWHP and 370 RWTQ ( 11.85 @ 11.8.67 mph)
17.0psi @ 7100rpm with more modifications was 508 RWHP and 415 RWTQ ( 1/4 miles times coming this winter )
Althought some may disagree with my numbers, they were all done with the same tuning equipment.
Stock kit @ 7-8psi makes 320-330 RWHP
10.0psi @ 6600rpm with modifications was 394.2 RWHP and 330.5 RWTQ
14.5psi @ 7100rpm with more modifications was 447 RWHP and 370 RWTQ ( 11.85 @ 11.8.67 mph)
17.0psi @ 7100rpm with more modifications was 508 RWHP and 415 RWTQ ( 1/4 miles times coming this winter )

all depends on the tune as far as psi. rods are the weak point in case on what blows on stock block DE motors they dont like to hold more than 400 tq in most cases. locally there is a guy thats been running around for over a year (7000 miles) with a stock block DE vortech he put down 436 whp and 380 ish tq and he hasnt seen any failure. thats as much as i would push my stock block if i had a DE. also if your going to be installing all that i would do some headers while your in there if its in the budget. if you dont have the extra money theyre not needed to achieve what you want.

Since you seem to have the skill set to do it yourself, I would suggest getting the Haltech EMS or if not in your budget I'd go for the tuner version of the Osiris.

If you are willing to disassemble the engine yourself but do not want to replace any of the internals, I would suggest getting upgraded head studs (ARR L19 if you can afford it or the standard ARP ones) as well as an aftermarket head gasket. To be honest it, it would be ideal if you replaced the pistons and rods at the very least but there is plenty of people who are running just fine on a stock block.
A revup oil pump is a good idea. Any non-true dual exhaust setup would be fine, you can find plenty of videos on youtube to hear how they sound. I'd also ditch the meth kit unless you are just planning to use it for water cooling, since I assume you aren't trying to get crazy HP numbers it isn't necessary. A motordyne plenum spacer is the only bolt on modification i'd bother doing.

I want to get the most out of the setup as possible with some safety margins but I do like to push the envelope a bit.
Maybe I can do the following:
Connecting rods
Head Studs
Head Gasket
Plenum Spacer
Rev Up Oil Pump
Headers (why not)
That should beef up the motor a tad more. If I do those I wouldn't have to machine/balance anything correct?
Also the motor has a tad less then 100k miles on it. But if compression is good and I do the above mods before boost I don't see why it wouldn't hold. WHP id like to be at 400-450 and Tq 350-400. Have it at 10-16psi. Is that safe? My tune has to be spot on as well.
Meth wise, I like to have it. It gives me a higher Octane boost and will help with removing detonation. I have it, why not use it.

and i thought with emanage you had no control over timing? maybe im mistaken though i haven't really looked into it
if your going to tear in to the motor that extensively might aswell do bearings and pistons while your in, would be silly not to with the amount of miles on the car. and if you plan on running water meth you could bump your compression up a tad and pulley down to a 2.87 or something. set up would be able to hit around 500 whp and be pretty safe (component wise, ultimately its all in the tune)

I'm thinking i'll sting up on the mods this year, do a full build next winter. Basically this year:
Run a lower boost level - 7-10psi
Acquire the remaining parts for the Supercharger (Plate, bolts, belts etc)
Full exhaust (minus the headers if its a pain in the ***)
Clutch
Intercooler Charge Piping
Wire in Gauges/ Make Emanage Plug and Play Harness or Buy if possible
Plenum Spacer
Coilovers
Rims/Tires (maybe that will wait)
Work out any kinks etc. Get the car drivable, do any maintenance required etc. Basically get it up and going.
Then come winter time, full rebuild, upgrade supercharger turbine wheel, smaller pulley. Probably spend 10k on motor/supercharger refresh.
What do you guys think? It will be my DD but I have another car if **** hits the fan.

low comp pistons forged rods, cams springs retainers oversized valves heads are ported and polished. greddy 18g tt kit, tuned with fcon has a knock amp in car. bride seats sparco harness bar takata harnesses, full JL audio set up 4 jl 12w 6's a 1k monoblock amp with a 45 4 channel and 3 way JL front speakers with touch screen 7" nav deck. has dss pro axles a nismo 2 way lsd, volk gtc's and rotara 6 pot front adn 4 pot rear bbk. if your interested. its an 03 with 21k miles ill let it go real cheap
