Opinions need on this build
Hello guys name is jose I'm kinda new to this form but usually I'm selling parts. I kinda know some things about engine building and want to get an over all opnion on my build. Im looking for around maybe 7k build but it will take me time. Money is not really an issue not saying I'm rich but I'm a waiting type of person. I'm looking for 500-550hp not big just enjoy to get going. Im also looking for parts too so if you have any that I'm looking for I'm interested.
Well enough is said this is my build...
Cp forged pistons and manley turbo tuff rods
arp head studs and main studs
arp l19 head bolt kit
head gasket
brian crower cams or cosworth or any cams of that high caliber
was wondering do i need the ferrea 350z full valve/dual spring kit?? i saw that i can get the brain crower values and springs cheaper than the ferrea whole kit idk not trying to go cheap but would love to save money too.
please comment and let me know if I'm missing anything else thank you for all your help

We have experience with both, and Ferrea is a higher quality product but BC gets it done for 9 out of 10 builds. What will you be doing with your built motor? Intended use? Don't forget supporting mods such as fuel system and engine management.
If you have not already purchased your parts, please give us a call!
We stock most of the parts you need and have great deals!

I run the BC 3 cams with their spring and retainer setup. If I were to do it again, I would go Ferrea valves with their spring setup. I think with the higher revving setups and massive stress being put on the springs, they have better quality to offer. But again, for 500-550 you will be fine with a BC 2 set or JWT set of cams, and the issue is not nearly as pertinent as if you were running 700+whp and revving out to 8k.

For those numbers you would be fine with a set of JWT cams and spring kit paired with a built shortblock. We sell our shortblocks for $3490 + core exchange http://www.forgedperformance.com/sto...at=1837&page=1
The other items can be added for well below your budget. Let us know if we can help in any way.

either of those valve springs and retains will work great. I have ferrea but a lot of members use BC.
If you plan on reving past 7500rpms i would recommend them. Since the engine has miles on it it would be smart to freshen up the heads while doing cams anyway.

You're on a budget leave the heads alone. You will have no problem making 500 ish whp with stock heads and cams, this stuff gets really expensive really fast. Unless you have a specific reason for doing cams/valvesprings/retainers like you want to rev to 8000 or make a million HP I'd say leave them alone and save your money

If you do cams you will need valvesprings and retainers as well.
Keep in mind you're going to need other supporting mods such as a return fuel system, upgraded clutch, possibly gauges/ boost controller, tuning etc. For the ECU look into Osiris, a lot of guys will recommend a haltech but for your goals Osiris is more than sufficient and also the most cost effective solution.
You can save a lot of money if you have time and the ability to do the work yourself tho.

I'm not saying it won't work but I wouldn't recommend it. If you want to cut corners on your own build that's fine but just because something works doesn't mean it is the best way to go about it.
