Default Probs with Greddy 18g TT setup???

I was hellbound on purchasing a Greddy 18g TT kit for my coupe till a guy a a local shop said they were nothing but problems. The install is incredible hard and the turbos constantly die on u. Has anyone else experienced this? Or heard of anyone having problems with the kit? I was always sold on this is one of the best TT setups to go with for a G/Z but now this has got me second guessing it. I know everyone is entitled to there oppinion on which/what setup is better (so I'm not only going to base my choice off this one shop) but if anyone else has any input it would be appreciated. Thanks

From my experience the Greddy setup is one of the best. Mechanically it's sound, So they were probably referring to the emanage.

Search around and you'll find plenty of setups making over 600 on the 18's.

no twin turbo kit install is easy. pull the motor to do it properly. past that, the kit is as reliable as any other. no reason not to buy it.

i personally would not have that shop do any of the work on your car though. They are already making excuses to cover shoddy work.

I would make sure you change out the oil feed lines that Greddy supplies to normal oil feed lines with AN fittings, and yeah just use an UpRev Osiris reflash if you're staying with a stock block. Other than that it's a perfectly fine kit, and there's seems to always be used 18g kits for sale in the marketplace. Good luck!

No problems after almost 10K miles....BUT.....I had Dyonsty/IP do the install and do it correctly.

If I was going to do it again I would probably go with BP's kit, install it myself on a stock block, and get a Haltech with a Dynosty tune.

But the Greedy twins are bas @ss!!!

I have the 18g kit, installed it and removed it myself three times now (always upgrading things because I want more power), and the kit is super easy to install. It's just a time consuming install, and they make fantastic power.

I love the Greddy system, decided to upgrade the turbos this year so I had everything removed and apart in about 7 hours. Which shop told you that they were nothing but problems? Are they a member of these forums? Do they have a boosted Z themselves?

Its not a hard install, just takes time. If you're paying by the hour you may want to attempt DIY; or a flat rate if possible.

Mine has been solid as a rock for years now; that includes alot of hard track miles.

I'm guessing the OP was just looking for excuses to make himself feel better about not having it.

Similar thread here- same guy.

Out of interest... how DO the two stack up? I'm curious as to what makes one kit "better" than another. Save for opinion- what's the difference? Routing? Quality of the stock parts? Access to key components?

How do those two kits measure up against one another?

My mentors (like Sylvan and Red35) are both huge JWT guys so simply through association I have the opinion that the JWT kit is a good quality kit. With that being said, I see a lot more Greddy kits out there...

Sorry if this is an unnecessary salvage of a dreamer thread but might be nice to get some new feedback?

^ up front the greddy uses oil cooled journal bearing turbos while your Jwt uses garrett water and oil cooled ball-bearing turbos. I think the consensus is that water/cooled ball bearing turbos are better for efficiency and longevity, but am not an expert. You also have more upgrade options with the JWT.

I think it's a lot easy to put on a 700bb or 800bb onto the current manifold while the Greddy has the 18g and 20g kits, but i do not think the turbos are interchangeble. You can upgrade the 18g to 20g fins though. Jwt offers a g35 with the twin intercoolers while the greddy has only one kit for the g35 and 350z which only has the large intercooler. So guys, like XKR, got the greddy intercooler piped up to their JWT kits.

But as you may have read about both kits are making great number with few longevity issues. I think only a few people with greddy kits are pushing theirs to the limits-alberto (18g) and meatbag (20g).

I think there have been some boost map comparisons somewhere.

My main reasons -

600whp easy on the 18g
Intercooler and pipe routing
Journal turbos are $300-500 to rebuild, a bb is $1000+.
External Tials, not sure if the JWT does?

^^Ruthless i think the 530bb kit has internal wastegates, but larger sizes are external only.

May be mistaken but reading in one of my threads HERE seems to suggest the 700s are internal as well...

^^ okay wasn't sure. I know of some guys with the larger turbos do covert to external wastegates by welding the internal wastegate shut.
