Default UpRev MAF GT - New, but all scratched up?

I almost hate to make a thread about this, since it's such a simple question, but for those of you out there who may know, is the UpRev MAF GT simply a replacement chipset and sensor inside a refurbished housing?

I ask because I just received my "brand new" $350 UpRev MAF GT from a dealer, in plastic packaging, but it has clearly received a great deal of loving from someone else at some point in the past:

I tried giving UpRev a call to check on this, but nobody answered, and I couldn't find anything helpful online. Aside from the scuffs and scratches, it doesn't appear to be damaged in any substantial way. If this is the way it's meant to be, then I won't worry about it. But I'd just hate to have paid $350 for a "new" product that's actually been used. That, and it wouldn't reflect very highly on the people selling it. I just want to know if this is normal.

Not trying to make waves or cause a fuss over this; I'm sending something back to the same shop that sent me this and I'm looking to find out whether or not I need to send this back as well. Any help would be appreciated.

my pmas maf had stuff scratched out and something else scratched into it (serial number) but that doesn't appear to be the case on this maf. This has just wear on it like it was rolling around in a box of things with no protection. The edges and everything else appear to be scratched up.

Do you mean it looked that way when you first got it from them?

That would certainly make the most sense. I'll just bank on it for now, call UpRev after the weekend to confirm, and then post back on here once I do.

They use OEM units... They're currently not taking cores because they have no way to test them but I know for a fact what 03ThreefiftyZ said is indeed true.

My PMAS had the serial enscribed on it but otherwise looked brand new. That's pretty jacked that you got an obviously used and abused unit for the price you paid for a 'GT'. I mean hell they could have at least polished it up. I almost wonder if this was caused by the shop you bought it from and not necessarily Uprev.

They are recalibrated and reconditioned used ones. We have sold proably 25 GT Maf's and at least half of them had some scratchs. Chances are you just got one of the uglier ones but I am sure it still fuctions as designed.

The one I got was all scratched up, so I was worried too.
Not to worry, they are fine even though they are scratched. It's not worth it for them to make new ones at the current number that they sell, so they just re-build used ones.
