Default Insurance

Who covers aftermarket turbo setups (not just the car, but the whole setup in the event of a loss)? Apparently Gieco won't cover it. So I've been chancing it for the past few years and wouldn't mind paying more/moving to another type of insurance if it meant everything is covered in the event of total loss (theft, collision, ect)

Weird, Geico told me they’d cover all my modifications (I asked for an additional $15k in coverage) for an additional $30 per month.

Number you called? I have Geico as well and they told me they do not cover aftermarket parts. So once the Z is complete, I'm going to search for a new company and leave my Daily on Geico since it is cheap.

most all places will add extra coverage, you guys probably just got new agents or agents that dont know their products well... believe me, at the 2 huge banks i worked at, maybe 3 out of 40 people in each of my departments really knew what they were doing and were professionals.. the rest were promoted entry level agents that got better positions just by being on time to work for a year.. thats usually the rule and not the exception.

Keep calling and asking. I bet the next person you get says it actualy is ok and offers you the insurance.

I have Geico and i put my rims, supercharger, hood, lip..etc. under my coverage. I have prob. 10k extra added to mine so if it gets smashed i get a check to cover it. When i get my turbo added on i was going to call them and add an additional 5k.

He just asked what mods/additions to the car i had and asked what price they were worth, itemized, and i told him. I was pretty impressed by the ease of it all.

Maybe its all state dependent. I know insurance rates vary state to state and they have different policies. Makes me sketch about calling again though to cover my turbo addition. I cant imagine they would drop me cuz im covering a truck also and my house with them.

well i was covering two cars with Geico and they only dropped my 350. so instead of renewing just 1 car with them i dropped geico completely. you can try and do an anonymous call and ask if they cover upgrades like that without giving them any account information...

Strange. From my research I have seen that it's not that they don't cover aftermarket parts... the issue is that they supposedly do not cover aftermarket turbo'd cars period... so once they know it's turbo'd it will be dropped.

For those who pay the extra $$ for turbo coverage, have you ever redeemed it?

Just got off the phone with Geico, they do not cover turbo kits on their auto policies. She pulled up the manual and read it verbatim...same thing with exhaust, custom paint, and a few other things.

i got hoaxed into thinking they cover turbo kits and then was dropped when the underwriters got a hold of my file. She said, sure Mr. Waller, we cover parts. I was told I was dropped because the parts listed were covered for more than the replacement value of the car.

I always thought they needed receipts for the parts that you try to claim, which would suck coz you don't get a receipt if you buy something from a forum member

I was told I am covered and my SC and everything I added was covered. It would be illegal for them to have me paying into a plan then if something happens they dont pay up. Hmmm...i might have to ask for a detail of my coverage plan.

I contacted my Allstate agent and inquired about coverage for my G. I was told they could cover all the modifications with a "show car" policy through Hagerty Insurance. However, the vehicle has to be garaged, can't be your daily driver, and mileage restrictions apply.

^^ Exactly... there are insurance companies that will gladly cover anything...for a price. I was just hoping to not have to pay quite so much..

Agree. A preferred carrier such as State Farm will take care of you. Just ask about replacement value or a rider.

If you have Geico. Go online and log in. You can edit the modifications to your car all by yourself without speaking to anyone. I looked at my detailed list and they have me down for "mag wheels" and a price set at $1000. Also they have 5 boxes checked that say "other" and in a text box a description and then a price associated to that. One says supercharger and has $4500 behind it. I just added my turbo on and got approved. It comes down to roughly $5 per month for every $1000 worth of added parts/mods on your car. Pending driving record of course.

I breifly asked my State Farm rep about it... she called me back a few min later and played it like its no big deal at all. I didnt explain what was done to my 370 but that it would take an extra 15 grand or so in the event of a total loss for me to replace everything. She made it sound like its no big deal at all.

Hopefully thats true!!!
