hope this isnt against the rules, since this forum is more for turbos then any one car.

http://www.theturboforums.com/smf/tu...ing-turbo%27s/

doubt any of us will have that problem since not abusing them as much but still can you say wow?

Actually, I found the discussion in that thread more interesting and concerning than the pics. I've heard rumors about recent problems with Precision turbos failing, but I took those rumors with a grain of salt since there haven't been any reported problems or incidents within the VQ community. I wonder if these incidents with Precision turbos have been limited to the purpose built drag cars with large frame Pro Mod turbos of 88mm size and above, or whether there have been problems with their 62 - 75mm CEA models too.

i call bs. those things have some significant wear on them and they are rusted as hell. My turbo that is 2 years old and under my daily driven car (through snow and rain in the midwest) doesn't have as much wear on the exterior as those.

so apparently when the engine blows the steering stops working too? i call BS on that too. I've blown many bike engines on the track racing and i've blow a car engine as well. Ya you lose power steering but on a drag strip you just have to keep the wheel straight while you stop. Easy to do even without power steering.

not so sure, the turbos might not be brand new but i have seen alot of accidents from the engine blowing, some simply from shrapnel taking stuff out, some because it suprised the drive and he jerked a little. not sure what that thing was running but i know that a drag preped 3rd gen like that can get down as low as 2450 lbs(mayby lower now thats back when i worked on em people could get em down that low.) so that thing i guarantee was running at least 8's a little jerk means wall.

like i said not so sure on the turbos being new, but a blown engine can easily cause a person to hit the wall especially looking at that thing bet it was like a grenade going off. hell i still jump at the cannon every morning at 0630, and i know its coming and hear it nearly ever morning. guarantee this dude dint know that was gona happen.

i will say though my turbo while not looking like that does have a decent amount of rust on it from the high humidity and ive barely driven it, i bet after less then a year here in hawaii mine will look like that. the hotter that thing is the faster it will rust too since it can flash vaporize any moisture around it, betting those things are getting hotter then most of us get our turbos simply from the power generated, the thread over there leads me to believe this is a outlaw 10.5 car which means its running over 2k hp.

it still looks like from the crash damage that accident caused the turbo to be displaced and snap off the vband which would then cause the turbine wheel to fly apart.

Mine has seen plenty of moisture here in missouri. it has even seen rain and snow. On the dyno they did video of below the car and the housing was glowing it was so hot.....so i have snow and heat all on a turbo that's 2 years old. The turbos in those pictures are definitely not new.

i dont doubt it, no idea since i dint see the race but the story posted is plausible. like i said i have no idea on age of turbos i would say at least a year old, i know mine has a decent amount of rust on the turbo already, just not nearly that much. hell my exhuast bolts started to rust with only like 250 miles on them and actually sucked to get off again.

anti-seize all over everything.....only way stuff comes apart after the midwest winters!

says 4-5 runs on them. The thing with turbos is most people set them down on a workbench or somewhere and they are exposed to something bending or falling into the housing. Something could have bent or nicked one of the blades weakening it on the install that he didn't know about causing a weakness.
