I think we've all had a similar incident (although maybe not as long lived, lol) as that. I had a clip not pushed all the way in once.

Glad it was something simple!

Let me know if you still have oil in the IC pipes. I have been thinking about this forever now, and the only thing I could think of is a faulty check valve at the turbo infeed. I have these in stock if a replacement is needed.

When you part the car, turn the key to ACC, so that the pum is running for about 30 seconds or so. This will suck all the oil out of the reservoir after shut down, leving it empty for the oil line to drain.

This is if the check valve is in fact faulty.

Will do Sasha. I phoned them this morning to check for oil before I go to pick it up. Haven't heard back yet.

Car is running great!

No oil in the intercooler pipes, idles great, smooth acceleration and deceleration, hot starts with no problem. Basically drives like stock out of boost. Very impressed with Vince's base map.

Got into low boost briefly and AFR dropped into the 11's.

Sent some logs to Vince and hope to have one revised map before the weekend.

Only issues remaining are P0037 and P0057 codes and an oil seep on the oil filter sandwich plate I can't seem to stop (might need to drain the oil and tighten the sandwich plate itself since the fittings can't be tightened anymore). Also have a metallic rattle on the passenger side at certain rpm, can't figure it out but could be a bolt or nut i dropped that is stuck somewhere.

Frick am I ever glad that all your efforts in doing the problem solving paid off. So many threads in here I read never seem to end no matter the effort put in.

Enjoy the car man it looks like you've earned it!

Thanks guys. It feels awesome to have it working properly. I do miss the NA exhaust sound but the violence of even the mild boost I got into makes up for it.

I will check the intake pipe tonight, thanks for the idea.

Figured I should post up a final response here.

I had the car tuned by Greg and Seb of SpecialtyZ and they did a great job. The car started throwing a P303 on the weekend and idling rough. I brought it in to the dyno yesterday morning and prayed it would be something simple. They suggested that driving it on an overly rich base map had probably fouled the plugs. Pulled #3 and threw in a replacement and sure enough, no misfire. We swapped all of the TR6 coppers for a new set of TR7 iridiums that another Z owner happened to have there which are the exact plugs Greg and Seb recommend (interesting given the spark plug discussion earlier in this thread). It sounded much better and the tuning commenced.

I was a little disappointed in the peak numbers of 375hp/385 ft lbs. Especially after watching a 370Z with Sasha's twin scroll kit hit 550 at 9psi. Running on spring pressure it was at 8.7 psi and I was on 91 octane. Going from 91 to 94 resulted in about 50hp increases for other boosted Z's over the weekend tuning session. I also asked for a conservative tune since it is a stock block and I want it to run well all summer at the track.

What I am not disappointed in is how it drives! I'm still getting used to the power and the noise but it pulls hard and drives smooth off and on boost. Open dump pointed out the passenger side is ridiculous though. I had the "honour" of being the loudest car on the dyno over the 3 days. I'll likely get it recirculated.

My last 2 remaining issues are a horrible metallic rattle at 3200ish rpm that I can't find and it is smoking blue after hard driving. Seb said by the amount of smoke if it was blowby my oil level would be down by now and it isn't so he thinks it is residual from the scavenge pump issues still burning off at higher temps. I'll be monitoring smokiness and oil level and hopefully it clears up soon. Also going to pull the intercooler pipes again to see if there is still oil going through.

Will post the dyno sheet in a new thread later tonight from home. Will also be going to the track on Friday if the weather co-operates but my ET Streets won't be here in time so I'll be on street tires.

Thanks again for everyone's help.

what throttle level are you talking about at 3200 rpms? is this during cruise or WOT? if it's WOT under boost then what is the boost level when that noise happens? The midmount kit is very picky on positioning of the coldside piping. It's very easy to get it too close to something and cause a weird rattle.

As for the smoke. You could also have residual oil left in the exhaust muffler packing. It took almost a year for the oil to clear out of my car after fogging the neighborhood due to not properly priming my oil pump. It wouldn't be a bad idea to keep checking the intercooler piping but i'm pretty sure you won't find anything. If you are still running the standard PCV system with the valve cover going to the manifold it will draw oil and nastiness into the plenum on decel and going from a hard boost run to no throttle the vac will pull some oil into the plenum.

Don't forget to run the pump by turning the key after you shut the car down to clear the reservoir tank. It takes very little oil in the exhaust to cause smoke out of the exhaust so it's hard to judge how much oil is actually being burned.

You can hear it while slowly accelerating but it is most noticeable while decelerating. I spent some time pushing on pipes and checking bolts and heat shields but haven't found it yet. I'm sure I'll get it eventually.

Smoke seems to be getting better but I'll be at the track on Friday night and that will be a good test. Both valve covers go to a vented catch can so no recirc issues there.
