Default My Dynosty Built 4.15L Stroker Twin PT67 is Completed... for now :D

As most of you know, this build has been going on for a long time. I have had a lot of issues which I am sure everyone can relate to.

Sort of brief rundown of what has happened from the start. Ff you want to skip the background story, scroll past this next section until the "now" part.

Got the car new in 06, started off with NA mods (motordyne exhaust, mrev2, spacer, straight pipes, etc.). Sounded awesome, wanted more. Came across a shop that had acquired two heavily modded Z's from a customer who ran out of money and sold the Z's to them for cheap. Decided to take APS tuner turbo off of one of the Z's and add it to my 5AT. Upgraded the valve body, put down around 400 wheel. Enjoyed it for about 8 months, and one of the turbo's started smoking. One of the modded Z's had an AEBS 4.3L engine in it with an APS Extreme turbo kit. Made a deal with the shop (and my buddy who was part owner of the shop) to swap the motor and transmission into my current car. The motor had not been set-up right since even before they acquired the car. The deal was if it works and everything is good, I pay for it. If not, I lose a lot of hard work but still get to keep the 6 speed. Well, we did the swap and what do ya know, motor had knock when we got it going.

Talked to Dynosty (Injected Perf) at the time about buying a short block. Ended up with a great deal on the a BC 4.15L stroker and sleeved block they had that was ready to go. Purchased it. Decided to swap the heads from the AEBS motor (which seemed to be fine at the time) to the newly acquired short block along with the APS extreme kit. Buddy and me put it together, and took it Dynosty (IP) for tune. Wasn't increasing in power like it should of been. The diagnosis was that it had to be the turbos. Dropped the motor, took the kit off, one turbo was bad. Decided to rebuild the turbos. Sent them off and when they came back, got them back on, then back to Dynosty for a tune. Once it started making power, boost started coming through the coolant system. Took the motor off again, turns out there was a crack in the heads.

Being fed up with everything I told Dynosty I wanted them to take over, to touch every single thing that I had and to make sure it was clean and in working order. Ultimately, for them to do all of the work lol. During this time, Greg at Injected was also trying to sell a custom SFR twin PT67 kit that was previously on a customer's car. I decided to pick this up and sell the APS extreme to get rid of the cast manifolds. I also decided to upgrade the whole fuel system and clutch (used to have the extreme fuel system and an RPS clutch). Again, I was frustrated with how everything had been going so I told Dynosty to have the turbo's inspected, rebuilt, etc. At this time, also bought the following, and sold a lot of my "rare", much loved parts (All of my ARC items, my TK Hebi Bebi ****, and my Project Mu brakes to free up some extra money. I traded the PMu's for Stoptechs with money on top. This still hurts me lol. I still with I had them, but oh well.)

Brand new set of heads from Nissan, had some ferrea valve train put in (no oversized valves or port/polish because I could not afford it)
New CJM dual hanger fuel pump
New High Flow Fuel Rails
New ID2000 injectors in hopes of running e85
Kenne Bell Boost a pump for the CJM
Cosworth plenum with CF end caps (ended up buying new metal end caps because previous owner destroyed the seals on them with resin)
GTM Spec Exedy Triple Disc Carbon clutch
And some other little things. Had the downpipes, Burn's headers, and turbo hotsides ceramic coated.

During this time, Hal had his hand on the new complete replacement ECU from haltech. He worked on tweaking with it and did a basic pump tune to fully feel out the new software. We then went to switch to e85. I was actually in town at the time and went to go get the e85 from a local gas station. When I got back, Hal told me that there was an awful noise coming from the tranny (the only thing I didn't change which of course was from the original modded Z that I had gotten the other parts from). It was completely destroyed. My luck it seems.

Again, running low on money but not wanting to chance any possible problems. I asked Dynosty if I could just let the car sit for a while so that I could save up some extra cash to purchase a brand new CD009. They allowed me to do this without any hesitation (not the first time, they've helped me out and let me leave the car there while I'm trying to scrape up funds, they felt my pain ha).

Finally, got the new tranny and was ready for the tune.

Now, or most recent lol
Started tuning. Car was doing great. Started turning up the boost. After a few pulls and making 822rwhp/751ftlbs at 26psi on e85, the clutch started slipping awfully (next pull made around 150rwhp lol). Another heart breaker. They called me and told me the news. It was sad, but on the other hand, it was still pretty cool it made that power and was only limited by the clutch. They also told me the KB boost a pump was over heating and that CJM was working on modifying his fuel hanger to incorporate the new Walbro e85 pump. I told them to not worry about it and to just tune it on wastegate pressure, get rid of the boost a pump and let me drive it and enjoy it for a while until I can somehow save enough money for a new clutch (which the motor will have to be dropped to replace). Decided to get a TS hood to help vent some of the major heat this thing produces.

This resulted in the following numbers dyno plot on e85 on the lowest possible setting (wastegate pressure; 16psi):

Drove up late last Friday night to take delivery of the car. After a day full of 100+ dyno pulls and hours of inspection, all in 100+ degree heat with awful humidity, I took the car out with the Dynosty guys to some local meets. Drove around all night, doing normal driving and some very hard pulls. No problems whatsoever! Then drove the car 2 hours back home to my garage. A strange, but awesome sight!!

Driveability is great. It pulls very hard and the curve is beautiful, especially without even using the electronic boost controller. I would change to a lower spring pressure in the wastegates, but to get to them, the motor has to come out This would allow me to run a littler higher boost and to also modify the curve some. But that will have to wait.

If I could go back, I would have done a lot of things differently in terms of how I went about building this thing. Never would of messed with the modded engine parts from my friend's shop. But what can ya do. Car is running great and am I extremely pleased!!! Thanks so much to the dynosty guys for everything that they have done for me and all they have put up with in dealing with me ha. I would never take my car anywhere else. They know their ****.

Ran out of heat tape. Gonna try to cover the bottom of the hood to try and reduce temps of it. This engine produces a crazy amount of heat and don't want to risk warping the hood.

Going to be repainting and fitting the body kit, along with painting the hood leaving the CF at the vents exposed in a few weeks. Later down the road, will also install an oil cooler. Very far down the road, new clutch and actually trying to make this set-up break a sweat!

Oh yeah... and a lot of cleaning!!

Thanks for checking it out guys!! All comments are welcome!

Sick build. I read something about the cjm twin pump hanger being modified for the 485 e85 pump. Is that the setup you are using or are you using twin 255s? Anyways, Bada$$ build.

i like your build... alot. Can you hardline those tubes near your subframe?

I'd destroy those immediately, but maybe your roads are better.

a few body details and you've got one of the sharpest builds in north america.

Great to hear ashton.

That is an amazing torque curve for twin 67mm turbos! 400 tq at 4000 rpm is awesome. I was expecting to see a lot more lag and the curve pushed to the right quite a bit.

why are there 2 bov's? I'm just curious at what level does there need to be 2 of them? I have a 50mm as do most people and run a single bov. I know dual intakes run dual bov but you have 2 next to each other.

bummer that everything has to be dropped just to do something simple like change a wastegate spring. Other than that this thing is perfect!

Nice too see, let me know when you move to a new clutch I might be interested in yours. I bought a new Exedy twin and I think I felt it slip the other day and I figured it would I wanted a triple but I started running out of cash to spend on my car as well. Anyway this winter if your ready by then I might have some cash to waste on my car.

I was thinking about selling my Mu to free up some cash for a supercharger for my truck but after hearing you still regret selling yours i will hang on to mine because i think i would feel the same way. Glad to hear you're driving it finally

CJM has modified the pump to incorporate one 485 and one walbro. Testing still needs to be done on it before it is set to be sold though. Currently I am just running the dual 255s. I don't need any extra fuel yet. Once I get a new clutch and can turn up the boost, I will be using the modified CJM hanger.

I appreciate it Cass! I am glad you are currently enjoying your car as well. Must be crazy hearing that V8 sound out of the 350z. I wish it would cool down here a bit and that the humidity would go away so that I could enjoy driving the car at night with the windows down lol.

Thanks man and no problem! Hal is definitely the man, they will treat you right up at Dynosty. Lol, I have ran out of money many of times when it comes to this Z. At least now I have a little something more to show for it than the past 2 years!

I could probably hardline them, but they actually don't hang that low. In the pic it sort of seems like they may get snagged on something, but I will try to get a pic from the side or front showing how high they sit. The roads here aren't too bad but I would really have to encounter something very odd in order to snag those lines. But I guess you never know ha. Thanks for the kind words about the car!

Thank you very much! I appreciate it. I originally thought the lag was going to be more too. I was shocked when I saw the results and the curve, especially without the EBC. That stroker kit really helps.

There are 2 BOV's because when I purchased the kit they were already installed. I think the previous car that they were on was going for a more "show" of a look or to show how baller he was ha. They are definitely not necessary or needed. But I didn't want to take one off and try to weld up the hole and they were very shiny haha.

The dropping of the motor for everything is quite an awful thing. It has about brought me to tears many times lol. If only I could drop the tranny without taking it out, I would be much happier lol.

Ahh, stupid clutches!! Don't they just **** you off? I will see what I have saved up by winter. If some how I have the money I will def let you know and we can set up a deal man. I hope that SRF overflow tank is giving you less problems now haha. I still feel awful about that. But I guess you were right about it not being my fault. Still looks good though :P

I would hang on to the PMu's. My friends tell me the red ST's look better on my car, but I still wish I had the Mu's. Buuuuut, if you ever are really wanting to get rid of them, shoot me a message first :thumb up:
