I'm on the tail end of my build and wish I bought the CTS-V. Oh and I haven't even drove my Z in 2+ yrs.

If you understand it will be nothing more than a play toy with a lot of expenses then go for it. It definitely isn't practical to do any modifying a car to that extent.
this ^, i have no plans to tear into my new ride indepthly at all, factory boost on a v8 + bolt ons is good enough and it will be cheaper than the z was in the end lol. if you want to drop money on a project pick something up a little cheaper its what i did s14 with a built ls1 in it

Only one problem for ya... You picked the wrong boosted GM. CTS-V FTW!!! JFWY!

But I have to agree.... Knowing what I know now... I would not have done my engine build. I would've sold my Z and ran to the Cadillac dealership.

Yeah... Well I have my '12 G37S sedan and wife's '11 Murano LE so I think we're set for transport of a child/family. But man it would be fun to scare them in a 600+whp family sedan.

I think modifying cars is fine if you got the dough for it, or it's bolt ons.
As soon as you start pulling/rebuilding the engine you're getting too deep for just for kicks mods IMHO.
I tried expressing my idea on it, and it just turned into rambling mumbo jumbo.
At the end of the day, it's a money pit. Just comes down to how bad you want that rush. Sad thing is, you spend all that money and time and there's someone twice as fast with less time or sometimes even less money. Then you take into consideration how none of your money ever comes back to you and im starting to ramble again.

It's perfect points though and exactly why I've decided to scrap my build plans and just go for the small FI build.

You have no idea how many times I wish I had just gone vortech, pulleys, paid someone for cam install, longtubes and shockwaves. Great sound and plenty of power. Easy fuel pump install, osiris tune, kept my automatic, no traction issues, most part installs just a one weekend job. And the money... the money. lol.

I wish I would have left my g35 alone then bought an older civic or something else to do my custom fun turbo build on. This is just a hobby so it would have been smarter to use less money since the whole idea is just to work on it and modify and not to make it some amazing exotic.

I will probably go back to muscle cars for my next build. Classic muscle.

Don't do it. The guy in my avatar had a built FI VQ and lost it all because he couldn't walk away.

Seems like once you dump so much money into the engine it will become less enjoyable to drive due to worry about having to rebuild it a 2nd or 3rd time (and I'm a worrier). Junk yard long blocks I can afford to drive every day both financially and mentally. I know you guys are bored with it but 450whp is just enough to keep me from going to the dark side.

I'm never worried mine will blow up but with all that money invested I'm not going to drive it and put wear and tear on the car every day going to work so I drive it less. With that much HP there are always things needing tweaked or nickle and dime junk.

So it basically becomes an expensive toy. It was still a toy when I was stock block on a vortech but just not 30k of add-ons.
