Opinions on a TT build.
So I've been in the airforce for about 6 years now and I've built up 45k to put into my 2004 Nissan 350z 6MT. My VQ35DE has 30k miles on it and I'm looking to put some work into it. The goal is 600whp on 93 octane gas. This will be my car for the summer as I have a TDI VW Jetta as my DD. So my questions are...
I'm definitely going to build my engine as I am looking into longevity, but should I build the one I already have or do I need to get a new one?
Is twin turbo the correct course of action? I was thinking the APS extreme TT kit, and to go from there.
Does anyone have any strong opinions on engine internal parts? Pistons, rods, sleeves? Parts that have stuck out to people as better?
I'm new to this whole thing so I'm looking for input on where to start and what to do, I'm fairly sure my budget is sufficient to meet my goals and still be reliable. I'm looking for ideas and opinions, I'm open to nearly anything that will get the job done, I've read a lot on this forum to know there are a lot of intelligent people who have been there and done that, so I'd like to know what everyone thinks. Thanks!

Contact IPP as far as engine goes. They have some great packages. As far as TT kit goes. Its hard to say. Greddy makes a good kit. JWT has a kit as well that wilk make the numbers ypu want. I suggest searching the FI section and look throuhh there.
dude.. 45k saved up... and you plan to dump it into a used Z? Opinions aside, that is objectively a truly terrible life decision.
Please.. seriously..
you ahve a ton of reading to do, lots of questions to ask, and your #1 step is save all of that money and go get cozy w a reputable high end local shop.
Wait at least 6 months as you learn and map out a clear plan.. and budget 10k of that money for fun stuff and save the rest. Seriously.
NO flame, just honest smack in the face advice.. i feel your trolling, but either way.. cmon man.

Now i know this is a BS post. IP search this lol.. i bet its an existing memebr w another name that nklows the perfect recipe for a horrific newb goal/thread.
all your money wont make a reliable 600 hp on a VQ happen on pump gas. Money does not alter physics that much lol.

With a split second box & 440CC injectors you should easily be able to support 900 wheel horse power, all with stock fuel rails... At least that's what Scott told me.
in all seriousness, if you have truly 45K saved, and the value of your car 2004 30K milages should get you a good deal if you sell it. close to 18K (from the listings i have seen)
GO FOR A GTR, you will not be sorry.

Sell the car and pair that with the money you have saved. Then put a sizeable down payment on a slightly used Z06 and be able to run with your 600whp 93 Octane Z with much more reliability
.
You could even spend a little change on exhaust, intake tune on the Z06 and probably out run the Z, with way more reliability.

This is one of the reasons so many soldiers come out of service homeless. They blow all of their earnings while in service and come out with nothing.
You have $45k? Why would you blow all that on a used 8 year old car. That's a serious down payment on a house, house furnishings, etc. In the words of Jack Napier, "Think about the future."
Edit: Now if you want to spend $10k and FI the thing on low boost I say go for it. But building these VQs out isn't worth it. I'm seeing it now, just scrapped my build project.

I promise I'm not trolling and I promise I'm not another member just looking to troll people. This is all good advice, and just because I have 45k doesn't mean I'm looking for spend all of it, it's just what I have. And don't worry I won't be homeless I have a house and a fiance with a job that pays more than I could fathom haha. I've read enough to know to properly do a TT build you need at least 20k. To do it right that is. And I'm also open to things such as not doing it at all. I got this car in 2005 with less than 6k on the odometer. I love my Z and I'm looking to make it into something awesome haha. But if people who have been there truly think it's a poor decision than I'm forced to take their advice haha. I don't want to completely regret doing it. Even if I can get it into a high end performance garage is it still a mistake?

Buy someone else's quality build. Like ace32x said, you could have purchased his crazy build for $33k - A build your $45K couldn't even replicate. Then save/invest the rest. Honestly, unless you are rich (sounds like maybe you/fiance are) or your true life passion/profession is building cars, dumping all that money into a Z just isn't worth it.
If I were you I'd consider 3 things
1) Figure out how much you are willing to spend, call dynosty up, ship them your car, get it back as a rocket ship
2) See how much you can get for the Z, sell it, save a bit and buy a used GTR.
3) Flat out just buy Hal's car:
http://www.turbo6.net/
That's a steal of a price. And it makes way more than the power you want on pump. Their dyno reads really low, so on 93 thats probably near or above 700whp on a dynojet.
edit 2
Hell if you want I'll sell you my car and you can finish it however you want, it's got the motor and turbo kit made, just needs to have the fuel system and some minor wiring done and paint.

Listen to the people that have gone through this crap man... Take Ace's advice as well as mine and don't do it. If you have a need for speed on 4 wheels, buy something already fast and just forget about it. GTR, Z06, something but don't invest so much into a Z. I regret it now. it will be cool for a while but its not worth it.
I love my built 652hp g35 but at the same time knowing what I know now would I do it again? Probably not. Not because of the platform. I don't think I would do this to any car after having done it. No matter what car it's a straight money pit because it becomes a toy. I had good times and bad times doing the whole build myself along with an accidental engine failure (not due to the build).
If you understand it will be nothing more than a play toy with a lot of expenses then go for it. It definitely isn't practical to do any modifying a car to that extent.
