This is what it is costing me...................about $5000.00

Thats for block prep w/ sleeves (about 2k)
Pauter Rods (little over 1K)
Ross Pistons (little less than 1K)
Bearings (500 or so w/ blueprint)
Oil Pump (200)
Balance & Blueprint everything and Assembly (the rest)

Check out www.aebsracing.com for info on the sleeves

Robin

I would estimate about $2800 for parts (forged pistons, forged rods, rings, wrist pins, etc) and machine work / assembly. I cannot find any info on the sleves so I'm not sure on that. I have 0 experiance with sleved motors.

I am thinking about just pulling the heads and installing some forged internals without pulling the block. Chances are the rings wont seat very well. I dunno..

Robin and others:

Do you know of anyone that has gone this far in building their VQ yet? It sounds like the route to go when FI if you are wanting to boost with reliability. I guess you would have about $5000 in this + about $6000 for a Greddy TT, then add tuning and installation for total cost. Does somewhere between $12-15,000 total sound like the price of admission?

I know that sounds expensive but I hate to read each post where someone bolts on a kit and burns a piston.

Another 8K on heads(cams, 1 pc valves, springs, porting etc.) and misc bolts, gaskets, assembly stuff

Then I figure about 2.5k on fuel sys and ECU and add to that tuning. I am in the process of doing just this......so If you want updates PM me and I will keep you posted.

WTF are you spending 8K on the heads? Why!??!?!?? Did you shop around? Damn, cams should be 1K, various parts about another 1K for Ti and strengthened pieces, 600 to port/polish, and about 700 for labor on tear down and build up. PM me if you need parts or better prices because 8K is screwing you. Ouch.

ok guys, help me out. What is the real cost of building this motor from the ground up. I rough estimated 12-15K for a TT built with all the things listed above. When you include labor considering you do everything at once (Build up the motor + install TT)what is the itemized cost?

The price Robin is paying seems very high..I would think that whoever is doing her work is taking advantage of her because she is a woman..Hey Robin do a little comparative shopping I think they are WAYYYY overcharging you...A built motor should run $7000-9000 tops...

Its all about how much you want to spend...............i promise you if i had 15,000 dollars i could build a 350Z that would scream reliably.

Niceee!

I'll do all my engine work for no more than $5k. Thier is no reason at this point that I can see to build up the head. If someone starts burning valves that may be a problem. But these new cars run super hot to keep the Cat happy. This forces Nissan to use materials that will withstand high temps. With proper tuneing I don't think much if any headwork will be required.
