Default Anyone ever snap or bust a timing chain on 350z?

I was wondering if this has happened to anyone and what could cause it to happen. Block only had about 27k on it. This is a built engine and was coachk's old car. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated..

Maybe since this was a "built" motor, when whoever reassembled it they over tighten the chain tensioners or the chain. Or the tensioners, guide, ect were installed incorrectly.

I was under the impression that the timing chain should never have to be replaced, a R.U.F. (Run Until Failure) part if you will.

my stock one had 101k on it when i replaced it, it streched some but dint snap, the tensioners are hydraulically adjusted impossible to put to much tension on them. guides are pretty damn hard to install wrong too, something is definitely going on for it to just snap best bet would be manufacturing defect.

It should take a good shop on average of 6+ hours to swap heads, so if they're just pulling them off, i'd be worried if they're quoting you 11 hours...Maybe they're just gonna take their time but on your dime.

Unless they're quoting total time to remove and reinstall the heads?

The OP made it sound like it was going to take the shop 11 hours just to take the heads off and look at the valves, BUT that could be the time to do a R&R on the heads. I guess it just depends on the mechanic and how equiped the shop is.

I got a quote from a reputable shop for $1500 to do cams. That equates to roughly 15 hours, so to R&R the heads, doesn't sound too far off.

So the car is at Precision R here in town and got a call from them today saying that they would have to take motor out due to the APS twin kit that's in the car. They said the exhaust valves looked good and will look at the intake tomm. Really hoping we just have to replace timing kit. I will ask them to do a compression as well just to make sure no valves are leaking...If the engine is totally ****ed though I will be parting out APS twin kit and other forged internals that are on car and just drop in stock DE.

^ouch! My guess is maybe the bolt came loose and got caught in the chain...maybe the builder forgot to torque something down on that side? ie water pump or something?

Was on a customers car. New chain with maybe 2500 miles on it. Happened when he was cruising down the highway. Looks like it links just tore apart so it could have been a weak spot in the metal. Ended up bending the valves in one heads but everything else was fine.

I see this happen when someone doesnt tighten the guides down all the way. The bolts on the guide above the water pump tends to come out first in that situation.
