Default boost controller question?

i am in the market for a boost controller to turn the boost up, obviously. so i was wondering about a couple things.

im currently running utec and i know they offer a boost controller that is compatible with my setup. I think that they can program the utec to do different boost settings on different the different map settings. ie. map one 7psi, map two 10psi.

-does this mean the tuner will tune for 10 psi and i just flick the switch to tell the utec which psi map i want?

-if i buy a seperate boost controller(not turboxs). would i have to switch maps with the utec map switcher and change the boost pressure on the controller, or just change the boost on the b-controller?

either way. i was just wondering. would you guys recomend that i buy the utec compatible boost controller, or a separate controller all together?

your map needs to be tuned for the highest boost and rpm you will ever potentially run. Therefore you only need 1 map for every boost level regardless if you use the Turboxs boost controller or any aftermarket one.

Wouldn't that change your afr if you only are running 7psi on the boost controller and tuned for 12psi on the UTEC map?

no the map looks at rpm and boost. it should be tuned for 7 psi and all rpm ranges as well as 12 psi. look at some of the pics of tuning maps and you will see. it dosnt say "oh the the engine SHOULD be running 12 psi boost" is reads the map sensor for what the engine actually IS running. hence the purpose of having a map sensor.

So like he said earlier, have two different maps and when ever you change the boost, change the map too?

no, unless your changing octane you are NOT changing maps the only thing you would change would be the boost controller. like i said the engine management dosnt give a **** what you set your max boost to only what it sees. if your boost controller is set to 12 psi or 7 psi its going to deliver the exact same fuel at 7 psi in both maps for each rpm point, just like it would deliver the same fuel for each rpm point at 12 psi. not sure why its so hard to understand but if you still dont get it after it being explained and looking at a map then you probably shouldnt worry about it and just let the tuner deal with it. they should both be the exact same map. only difference being when the boost controller is set to 7 psi the columns above 7 psi simply wont be used has nothing to do with changing maps.

simple enough. thanks. it makes sense.

would you guys recommend getting the turboxs controller built into the utec, or the aem tru boost?

i'd run the UTEC controller since it can actually do something about overboost.
