Default Stay away from Royal Purple

I switched to Royal Purple because I couldn't find Amzoil or Redline easily and as a result I burned up both of my turbos in less than a 1,000 miles. Local turbo builder told me that my bearings actually burned up do to viscosity breakdown. I am starting to think that the oil is colored Purple so that you don't notice how fast it does breakdown and turns black. I will post pics of the bearings as soon as I get them back. You won't believe that they have low low mileage on them.

Royal purple is a race oil, right? no detergents or nothing.... It would be silly to run race oil on a street car that isn't rebuilt after each drive...

Yup..
Viscosity breakdown results in heat destruction, a few things can cause that..
And oil turning black doesnt have to do with breakdown, detergent content among other things in the oils structure do that.
I had a cust tell me that the oil My company put in his car caused it to blow up. Long story short, there was a collapsed oil feed line that was only allowing a little oil in to the turbo.. turbo had oil in it, but was all burnt up inside. Happens to brake lines too.

I have royal purple in my car now and also ran it in my DSM's. No problem what so ever.
If you believe it was an oil breakdown issue. Send it off and you probably will be surprised.

I have heard mixed reviews of RP.

I highly recommend that everybody stays away from Mobil1. That oil is garbage. I used it once on my supercharged Civic and ended up having super low oil after 2k miles. Switched back to AMSOIL and never had an issue for the next 10k miles until I traded it in.

Ran mobile1 full synthetic on my turbo sephia for 35k miles(with 1 qt of lucal oil stabalizer) without an oil change. It wasn't even black when I changed the oil

OP-without a legit oil analysis-which still wouldn't blame the oil specifically, but would help in pinpointing what happened, the blanket statement your builder made, that you chose to believe is silly.

You may like to eat BS, but this community has had enough of it fed to us, and we simply wont accept it.

You should find a new shop and or confront your builder about it.

That's the problem. You're very quickly becoming another sheep... And the slaughter is gonna hurt your bank account BIG TIME.
