Default My quest to 500whp (Vortech build)

My current setup is currently at 432whp, far below my goal of 500! I was informed by my the shop that I'm experiencing belt slippage around 10psi. I did some research and identified my build is missing a crank pulley. I'm currently looking at ATI or Fluidine, does anyone prefer one over the other, if so, why? Lastly, can you guys, whom I'm sure are much smarter than me take a look at my current mods and offer suggestions as to why I may be missing. Thanks in advance.

With a High HP Vortech Build, TimRod's Radius Rod Strut kit would be a great addition. Pushing the blower that hard will put much more load on the Vortech Bracket than it was Designed for. The Radius Rod will support the Bracket at the far end on the Blower side, stopping any bracket flex, that will contribute to belt Slip. The Radius Rod is a Must for high HP Builds.... Especially with the 2.62

Also looks like your Fuel System is Lacking if you would like to get the most out of your nice short Block and 928 blower. A Stage 2 CJM, Much Larger Injectors, Larger fuel pump (255 walbro will not cut it) maybe even a Twin 255.

How Big is your Intercooler? I'd look at some of the Treadstone ones, nicely made, good price. You need one that will a flow at least 1200cfm, a little bigger would be better.

Looks like it will be a nice build.

For 500whp I suggest:

-tightening your belt even more (really, this can be done)
-928 Impeller upgrade (Or T-trim, whatever floats your boat)
-Timrod bracket stiffener
-Either Fluidampr or ATI will work (I've used both) but ATI may be a little better because bigger crank pulley = more belt wrap...just make sure you use an impeller calculator....you'll need to be around 60krpm to make ~500whp dynojet

I agree with this all. Your fuel system won't cut it. On a vortech system with that extra drag it usually loses a walbro 255 at mid 400hp (depending dyno and individual fuel pumps). You will probably need at least 800cc injectors as well with the larger supply line to flow better (stock supply line is tiny).

Adding the extra TIMROD pulley helps quite a bit on belt slip and tightening the belt like crazy as well.

I have an ATI super damper. Quite a few people use either of them and they are both good units. I see other platforms using the ATI more often and the fact that it was in stock when I went to upgrade swayed my decision.

This is the dyno graph, sorry about the "huge sample" I cant get the shop to send me the dyno on electrons. Anyway, as you can see the belt slippage on there. Looking for advice, thanks in advance.

You didnt mention anything about an intercooler? But as mentioned above - look into the CJ motorsports stage 2 and bigger injectors.

I have the ATI dampener and I am with it, but I couldnt tell you which one is better.

Doing my initial searches, where can I find a CJM intercooler? Their website only carries fuel related products, aside from a full race manifold.

yea, cjm doesnt make a intercooler that I know of…

check out their website -

http://shop.cj-motorsports.com/CJM-S...0zDEstage2.htm

I think you can buy from their site but check out Import Parts Pro dot com too…you may have to call (Kyle), but I ordered mine from him and was happy, I'm pretty sure he can offer you a better price. And if you need other stuff he can get it for you.

In the process of getting the radius rod strut kt, still on the lookout for a ATI crank. What's the largest IC I could use and keep the crash bar?

With minor modification to the bar I can fit a 4" core, the only limitation you'll have (if you're ok with having core behind the bar) is the width of the intercooler from end tank to end tank. Can't remember how wide mine is though.

You should defenitly be making 500hp with that setup fuel supply.

They're usually sold used as part of a kit. You can call Vortech at 805.247.0226.
