Exclamation Need advice, going Turbo with Quality parts, but with Ebay piping only. ?

Hello guys,

I own a manual '04 in perfect conditions, yet with 84k miles. Compression test shows around 180 on all cylinders, one was 190 though (carbon build up?). I want to go turbo. I'm not new to custom turboing a car, I've done that to my old Tiburon V6 (was a pain, totally custom, but learned a lot).

So: I have read ALL the threads on custom turbos and ebay turbos and I know they are J U N K. I read of a guy who put 38 psi thru the block because of a cheap WG, I think that was stupid not to get a good one.. I plan on buying a QUALITY Turbo and WG (whichever you guys recommend, $800, $900 up to $1000 in price please..) and doing the rest a custom build, with my expert mechanic and fabrication shop.

The idea here is to save money BUT build a decent setup that I won't have to worry about that much, and just fix things when they break, so please, read on:

I live in El Salvador where we have some truly good and cheap exhaust fabrication shops, and very good and cheap mechanics. So here's my idea:

1. Buy an ebay turbo kit *just for the piping*. Specifically, this one, I need to know if any of you have experience with this kit and can tell me if the piping will mostly fit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/GODSPEED-GSP-G35-350Z-BOLT-ON-T3-60-1-TURBO-TURBOCHARGER-KIT-VQ35-Z33-450HP-/271275951051?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Model%3A350Z&hash=item3f294e83cb&vxp=mtr
We can fabricate SOME piping if it doesn't fit.

2. Buy a QUALITY Turbo. Precision? Please help me with links on where to buy a decent-size, fast-spooling turbo that will make 350+whp at 7-8 psi?

3. Buy a QUALITY Wastegate with 5, 6 and 7 psi springs included .. - please help me with links to some?

4. Buy a QUALITY Ebay intercooler? Links please?

5. UTEC or UpRev Pro? UpRev PRO is expensive, are there alternatives?

6. Cheap 550cc or lower injectors please? Where to buy, and which one, 440 or 550?

7. I know I will need oil pan spacer, will buy.

8. I plan on buying an AEM TruBoost boost controller, I've had one in the past, do you guys trust these? As a failsafe perhaps?

9. Is a bigger fuel pump really necessary for 350, 370 whp? I'd like to use the stock one if possible.

That's it. I will GREATLY truly really appreciate any help you guys can give and direct links / product names on the above.

And yes, just so you know, I am prepared to shell out some extra $$$ if the thing goes boom, but with a quality turbo, WG, and BOV (HKS SQV3), and low boost (7 psi) with decent tune, it should hold, right?

LASTLY - Is there a way to buy just decent piping online?

THANKS IN ADVANCE TO ALL OF YOU! I've been wanting to do this for a long time and I'm in a financial situation where I can very easily deal with any situation responsibly, but don't want to spend more than say $4k on the project.

I would also upgrade the BOV if I were you. Interested to see how this project turns out. Don't listen to all these guys that think they know everything. Just do what you want, it's your car.

Um...really?

Just please buy a used kit. A quality turbo is half if not more than half your budget.

at yet another thread about the damn Godspeed kit. This thread should be retitled "Need advice on how to polish a turd on a $4000 budget".

how about the marketplace on this very thread, smart *** questions get smart *** responses. not sure how you expected to do it since the turbo, wastegate, uprev, and injectors are already most of your budget would be over budget after buying that "kit" and selling off what you could, if you wanted dbb you would already be over budget without the tubing

You have been here for 5 years going by the date you joined this forum. Granted, you have 6 posts, you should know that a few "sub forums" down is the marketplace. There you will find used kits all day that are in your price range. You'll most likely need a few parts since some stuff is left out or not included. No one is going to give you much information when everything you want US to do is located on this website.

graffkid732, thanks for your reply, i did not know you guys had a marketplace. Looking on there now, seems like I have to be looking every day , not a problem , I can do that.

But there doesn't seem to be that many kits for sale, they all seem to be sold. Hopefully I can find a kit soon, or does anyone know of a single turbo kit that's being sold right now? Thank you.

If you can afford it (only a few thousand more) you'd be best off buying a brand new boosted performance mid mount turbo kit. Don't go with any other singles; they just don't have the same capability for future performance improvements, nor ease of installation.

Thanks Resmarted, will look into it now. Do you know of any websites that sell this cheaper?

Do a custom mount rear set-up. Do all the piping custom, run a utec becuase it's cheap and it works...also has overboost protection and will cut your ignition 1psi over your limit. My godspeed piping sucks(has to cut part of the front radiator support to fit) and the exhaust flanges did not seal(also had to bash part of a pipe to pass my frame). I am going to have to take the whole thing apart this winter to install v-band flange gaskets.

iideadeyeii, I read your thread... Dude you really should have bought a good WG! ... But thanks for your .02. Yeah I plan on doing custom piping with solid aluminum that they work with down here, the fabrication shops work great.

But I do plan on getting a good WG with a 2nd BOV for overboost protection. Anything else you want to add?

if you are going to fabricate your own piping, then what exactly are you buying any kit for?

i think buying a cheap pipe kit to make a mock up for the intercooler piping is a good idea if you dont have your own fab shop, i did this and was able to drop off my "cheap ebay kit" to a shop and had them make me a couple one piece intercooler pipes for my rb25det swap after i had it all mocked up for the swap
