Default Questions for those in the 370+ hp club

For those hitting these numbers...

1 - Did you have to go with bigger injectors? (non-GReddy kit owners... I know the GReddy comes with bigger injectors)

2 - Have you done any bottom end work to the motor (rods, pistons)?

Just wondering if the 370-400 range is doable on stock internals and/or if I'll need to plan on an injector purchase if I go with a SC.

fwiw:

when i was dyno tuning, we did some "fun" runs at 10lbs of boost, just to see what happened. this gave me a HP number of about 430. we never tuned the car to 10lbs, but made sure the dfmu was set on the rich side.

sure enough, my a/f ratio was pegged at 10, which means it probably went even lower.

this shows me that at 430HP, the stock injectors can provide enough fuel to be overly rich. this also means for 400HP solutions, you do not have to upgrade injectors (if you run a setup that raises fuel pressure)...

and along these lines, i think its imperative to run the car with a boost dependant fuel delivery system (for stock injectors or upgraded), as the stock ECU knows nothing about pressure.

mcduck, I'm well over 370hp on a stock motor, stock injectors and I can honestly say that this car has taken my abuse very well. I've checked compression a few times, it's perfectly fine, my plugs are fine. I've done over 25 pulls on the dyno, abused her at the track, countless highway and stop light to stop light runs, all is well Whenever your out in the Raleigh area, if you want you can check out my ATI setup, and take a spin in it.

I thought you were going to change the pistons/compression on your motor etc. after having the engine problems? Am I missing something?

Yeah ya'll missed alot. After being jerked off by Altered Atmosphere, and STEALING my custom pistons and sh*t, I had no choice but to throw a stock motor in there after I went up and took my car back from those douche bags after 3+ months of wasting my time. It was either wait another 10 + weeks for customs pistons and rods, or just throw a stock motor in there. I got the motor dirt cheap, installed it myself, so I decided for a short ammount of time to just leave it like this. Don't worry, I still got something for you all in the works.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, guys. If and when the SC goes in, I will not worry about further upgrades (injectors, rods, pistons) unless I decide to go higher than 7-8lbs of boost. Just the kit, some good tuning, and some gauges to keep an eye on things. I think that's the route I'll be going.

Good luck mcduck... this seems like the route that I am also looking to take on my Z. Please let me know if you come across some good info.

fwiw,
Be prepared to take the car to someone who has tuning ability with the Splitsecond controller. Every install here has needed custom tuning to get everything just perfect.

g356gear, I would argue that all or nearly all of the successful FI installs (abitrarily defined by me as not blowing an engine and acheiving greater than 350 rwhp) you are reading about on this forum have some form of custom tuning.

Bill, they "STOLE" your pistons? What do you mean by that?

I am not quite at 370 RWHP but close and right now I have stock injectors and ATI's FMU. No problems at all. I plan on going with the larger injectors and getting the ECU flash for FI sometime in the future. I also have the J&S safeguard kit and may or may not put that on as well. Not sure if I will really need it after the ECU flash and ditching the ATI FMU though.

What I mean by that is I waited over 8 weeks for my custom pistons and rods that they ordered for me, sending them a set from my blown motor, when they came in they refused to give me them. So, yeah I feel that they took my pistons and rods, did I pay for them? No, I offered, and told them I need and want them. They did use my old piston and rod so the new ones could be made. They were intended for me. I can go on and on, but I don't think this is the thread for that.

I would strongly suggest going with the ts ecu and and pe 380cc injectors when you decide. One of the best setups bang for buck if you as me.
