Question HKS GTS8555 kit - what to expect ?

Hello all,

Firstly thank you for your time.

Say I was running the following parts on a 2004 DE 350Z:

- HKS GTS8555 kit (tuned for maximum boost)
- HKS Fuel Upgrade kit
- HKS Type S oil cooler kit
- Jun 3.8L stroker kit
- Jun camshafts
- HKS exhaust manifold, catalyser and True Dual Exhaust
- And all of the supporting modifications.

What is the maximum crank hp that can be obtained with this setup ?

Thank you all for your time and responses.

There are alot of variables but i would estimate 4-450 depending on fuel system and your tuner.
If you are looking at Jun parts, must have a solid budget to work with. Any reason that you are staying away from jwt or bc bottom ends?

Brand anxiety. You know, a Japanese car needs Japanese parts

I’m also from Switzerland. Not much choice around here apart from importing stuff from Japan.

Also, all of this is hypothetical.

Is it safe to assume if youre stroked you have a built block - elaborate on what internals you are running?? What other modifications are you running? How much boost does the HKS put down? What are you tuning with?

Your output will be dependent on your superchargers boost & airflow.

ehhhh...hypothetical?

a good rule of thumb on a 3.5liter vq is multiply your boost PSI by 20, add 250 and that's your output. Seeing that youre a 3.8 liter?? use your boost PSI multiplied by 22 and add 270 and that will be your output.

Not that it is nearly the same setup, but on my G, on a totally stock 3.5L stock engine, on the low boost pulley with the restrictor plate in place I made 320whp and 309rwtq at 6psi on a relatively unforgiving dyno. I picked up 82whp with only 6psi, granted this is on stock CR, stock displacement, I'd assume you could generate similar power gains from boost, so if you were able to spin it up to 12-14psi mid to high 400 to the wheels shouldnt be out of the question.

I've got a block at the machine shop currently getting some forged pistons/rods installed so hopefully I'll be able to transition to the high boost pulley, remove the restrictor, and fit it all to the built engine soon to get some results on higher boost.

HKS claims the kit can do 500+ but let's take a second to evaluate the cost of said hypothetical setup would be insane header-back HKS system alone would be around $5000

Jun stroker is about the same price as the exhaust.

Yeah and the oil cooler is well over a grand, not to mention that the HKS fuel kit isn't enough for the higher boost pulley. Silly how that all works, but if you got cash....go ahead.

Spoiler

WHAT CFM IS THE HKS?

If you are gong to spend the money for a built motor,

Then my choice would be a Vortech V2 Ti-Trim HD Supercharger, with all of the supporting modifications.

with the stocker, 700whp easy IMO

I personally hate how the Vortech sounds like a broken POS, because of that when I go FI it will be HKS or turbo. I'm taking a lot of steps making sure my car is as refined as possible and want it to sound like it as well.

this is true ... two immediate thoughts

boost does not equal airflow

and, as the great TCode once said 'boost is wasted airflow' (I think thats what you said T??)

Hey Dark, what steps have you taken to learn just what the Sound you heard was coming from?

Do you know the Actual Reason? Cause? Install *****-up? Any Idea?

I'd like your insight........

All Superchagers have sound.

All Superchagers have sound.
Just from every supercharger I've ever seen done on these cars locally except for rotrex style blowers.
They have a distinct sound at idle an low RPM that I'm not going to live with even if they are better.

Sorta like a rattle on top of the whine, rotrex style blowers do not have that sound.

I asked one person they said it was the blower, but every one I've heard in person has that sound. Or were you asking about the rotrex?

I'll Explain.....

Just to a Step for You! LOL

That is Back-Lash in the Gears, from Slow Gear Speed!, I don't have this Problem..... Nor do Most.

The Vortech is a Bigger Supercharger, and does not need to spin at the same RPM as the HKS to Move the same CFM.

@ Idle on a Stock Vortech is spinning only about 4400 RPM, the HKS over 2X that.

With the Vortech, as soon as you change out the Serp to the 3.12 or 2.87 and raise the Idle to 825 RPM, that Gear sound or Noise will go away.

Ok, what I don't get is how every single one here in Illinois has had that sound, it really turns me off lol. The HKS also has rollers instead of gears, so it will be quieter regardless of RPM. I would get the Stillen if I didn't have to run the stupid hood.

The Largest HKS makes is a 988CFM, just depends on what you want....

Vortech Starts at 1000CFM, Ti-Trim @ 1400CFM, And so no.......
