Default 03 Street Build

Going to post to revive some forum traffic because I miss it.

Owned my 03 track edition for about 11 years now, and am just wrapping up the final stages of a build I started 16 months ago. It's still on a break in tune, but got it out for some photos the other day. Dyno tuning is at Z1 on 8 April.

Build details:

Boostline Rods
Wiseco 11:1 pistons
Upgraded wrist pins
Bored .020 over
King Bearings
Tomei Cams (272/10.5)
Tomei Springs
ID 1050x
Walbro 450
CJM stage 1 return
Z1 poly motor mounts
Z1 poly trans mount
Z1 subframe collars

Momentum Single turbo kit
G35-900 turbo w/T51R mod
Momentum Headers
Greddy RS Race exhaust
Exedy Cerametallic twin disc
CD009
Z1 Built differential w/street pro 1.5way
DSS 370Z axles

Chargespeed type 1 front bumper
Voltex skirts
Voltex diffuser
Stardast carbon duckbill

Innovate Motorsports gauges
HKS EVC VII Boost controller

Nismo Clubsport CR57 (19x10.5 +22 square)
HKS Hipermax IV SP Coilovers
Hotchkis Sways
SPL control arms throughout

Think that's the majority of it. It's been fun to bring a vision together of what I felt like an "ultimate" street version of the 350Z should be. With the platform being as old as it is, it's been nice to learn from all the information out there, take advantage of newer technology, and bring it all together to create an awesome experience on the road.

Definitely not going for any records, but goals are somewhere between 500whp and 650whp depending on wastegate, low boost, and high boost maps.

Cheers all!

Happy to answer any questions and my social media is in the sig.

Nice work, subbed.
Good luck with the tune and car, tell Jon I said "Hi!", he's the best around. Just make sure he explains your maps...

Appreciate it! Been a while since I've been to Z1, but have been lots of times and Jon has always worked the magic. I will probably have at least three different maps so I'll definitely be sure to get all the info about them

You'll love the new facility, the waiting area overlooks the Dyno area so you can watch the progress! The parking lot is the same so you can do a few laps/pulls before actually getting out on the street. Post up your results!

Awesome build, we'll put together. I need to start doing this myself before parts get too hard to find.

First time seeing this thread as I stayed away for a bit but this makes it worth coming back. Saw the first pic.... "Oooooo... CR57 Nismos". Car is looking suhweeeet! Sub'd for post tune results!

EDIT: Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh..... you're "Vitamin Z" on YouTube. I was watching a vid on the Coolerworx shifter install & op and thought, "OK, this is a good reference, well done vid, not the usual putz out there playing expert mechanic for social views." [Bookmark] And I'm hard to please.

haha, awesome! I have been slacking on my youtube content, but plan to finally get an update out there this week before I head down to Z1. As you can imagine, I was chasing all sorts of minor little issues for weeks and just didn't make for any decent content

Here's the results! Things went really well. Only a few small things that I anticipated. We think the recirc pipe on the kit is keeping it from holding boost to redline. It will peak around 15psi but trail down to 13psi. Eventually will swap to an open dump to resolve later on. Also running a filter on the turbo and running the smaller intercooler that came with the kit. Overall, super pleased! Car made 536 on pump gas and 607 with boostane.

Very clean build man!

Quick question, what head gaskets did you go with and im curious why did you go with high compression pistons if it was going boosted?

Car has Tomei HGs.

It's much easier to run high compression on boosted applications these days with better tuning options. Low compression still gives some margin for detonation concerns, but for the power goals I had it's nice to have the higher compression for when I'm out of boost. Overall, car drives like a normal NA car when out of boost which is tough to get on a lower compression motor.

Good luck! Hitting that range is a tall order and will require a lot. What's your goal? Drag car?

Typically, a great sweet spot for these cars is about 550-650 tops to still be able to enjoy it on the street without many issues.

haha thanks, yea all thats left is to build my engine and up boost, plus small things here and there like electronic boost controller and slicks in the rear.

yea its an aggressive street car/daily right now but eventually it will be mainly drag. I really want to hit 10s, maybe even sub 10 if im lucky and crazy enough to go that far.

I followed you on ig, go checkout my build

Update: Jumped up to ID1300 injectors and tuned on E85. Did 666whp on Friday the 13th in October LOL. Really liking the jump to E85. Need to hook up the map expansion wiring for the HKS EVC and could probably hit 700+. Plenty happy with where she is now though!

666whp - love it! A true devil Z.

Been following your build pretty much since the beginning, and it's one of my favorites. Just clean, tastefully modded, and now fast to boot.

Car looks good. Did you tell them to purposely ease off the torque? A single 62mm turbo should make max boost well before 4000 rpms. Thats the power band of twin 62mm car.
