Default Interesting Oil Temp readings....

well, in continuation of oil temp readings. i did some more data logging.

The oil temp on my turbo setup, @ 8.5psi, was AMAZINGLY lower than what was previously recorded.

the PE turbo setup adds a 40 row- cooling fin oil pan, that holds 1 more quart than stock.

for example of how drastic of a change oil temp was during open-road field testing of the TT during development, we had a peak operating oil temperature of 115*C with the stock oil pan.

with the setup now, the peak operating oil temperature i've seen is 95*C

During normal cruise w/o boost before the new pan @ 3k RPM, 80mph, in 6th gear, was 90*C
Now normal cruise w/ boost is 65*C!!!

i had purchased an permacool oil cooler to help in cooling the oil down, but this new oil pan is bad azz.

just wanted you guys to know--

Cheston

$500 for a friggen oil pan!!!! Holy crap. OK, time for an inventor here to reduce the costs. If it does help that much, I'd pay $200, but no way, I'd pay $500.

i'd rather install this than an oil cooler, less than the nismo oil cooler kit too. Cheston, is there any clearance problems or does it hang any lower than the stock one?

I don't think clearance would be a problem because there is plenty of room below the engine. I do have a question regarding the extra capacity though. I think the cooling effect has more to do with the extra capacity than the fins. Mainly because there's not a whole lot of air getting through there anyways.

Big question though, did it come with an extended oil pick-up tube?

I'd like to get something like this.

Basically, a stock oil pan with baffles added for high speed cornering. The T baffles would also add extra capacity. All to be had for cheaper than the PE one. Anyone got an extra oil pan they can send off to this company so they can develop one for the 350Z??

Yeah, I tend to agree here. When you increase the oil volume circulating by 20%, you'll likely get a 20% drop in oil temp. It would be great if someone could just make a standard type oil pan, but with a 6qt capacity.

I'll call them up today and see what they can do with it.

What kind of material is the oil pan made of? Aluminum? Steel? Is it cast or stamped??

Yeah tell them they can use mine for development or whatever, I'll ship it out whenever, just let me know. I don't remember what it's made out of, I think it's Aluminum, I'll have to check.

I'd need to know. If it's cast aluminum, it's probably gonna be more expensive because it's harder to weld on. Might not be worth it depending on the cost.

That PE oil pan is very very nice. I may pick one up. How is ground clearance with it on? Does the stock cover fit under the engine bay with it installed?

I don't think that $500-$700 is too bad for a cast aluminum piece like the PE or ARC ones are honestly. You ahve to remember that in manufacturing, volume dictates price. There is, without a doubt, a much higher demand for a Honda/Acura pan than there is for a 350Z one....
