Default CARB for TT

I'd think that cast iron manifolds and free wheeling BBTs would help the CAT light up time. JWT is shooting for CARB and uses both techniques , if he gets an EO, he'll be the first CARB legal TT setup for the G and Z.

Yeah thats what I originaly thought also, though I cant see any reason why a well engineered TT system should not pass the CARB test. With cast exhaust manifolds and ceramic coating on all cast exhaust components (pre cats) the cat light time should not present a problem. How big an issue is the CARB EO for the rest of the states? I suspect that most other states and owners of Z cars are not really concerned about the CARB approval. Would be interested to hear the thoughts of guys in different states in the US.

Default Word on the street is....

CARB emisson specs will be the 50 state default within 3 years and most EU countries are also adopting similar standards. All car manufacturers are set to produce just one low emissions model for all markets.

Well that is very interesting news. Are you 100% sure that the rest of the states are picking up the CARB emisions standards within a 3 year time frame? If so it would be nearly mandatory to gain CARB EO order to market all high performance mods in the US. Can you confirm where your information originated from ?

Thanks

Peter

nicest feature (not included with the kit but worth noting) is the lack of MAF.......can we say well done engine mgmt intended for FI

As for HP, HKS is going to quote it low intentionally I imagine - they typically have done this in the past.

I am 99% sure that the MAF is retained...it's just sandwich down there...probably hidden by the bumper.

There is no way in hell this would pass CARB withhout that MAF sensor.

Also, this kit includes a small intercooler. I will post a pic when I get them all fixed for web viewing, if someone doesn't do it before me.

It is 75HP not 75whp which = ~262 KW @ Flywheel

Also from my local HKS dealer

> quote

I have some further info regarding the S/C kit, with production scheduled to start in May, Pricing & Dyno graphs will be available closer to the release date which is looking like June. The kit comes with an intercooler and a pre-programmed F-Con S computer, with 7psi of boost this gives an increase of 75hp at the flywheel to an approx total of 350hp. I am told the charger has the potential for 450hp and the F-con S is not locked so can be further tuned by HKS Pro dealers

> end quote

Like already mentioned in recent posts 7psi = +75 HP seems low.

I hope this just typical HKS under estimating power outputs

Great.... A closed circuit oil system, meaning HKS specific oil that can be bought only through them that they will charge an arm and a leg for.

joust is not pleased....

I love how everyone is so quick to criticize without having the slightest bit of info, other than simple marketing materials, to go off of.

HKS is the oldest name in high end import performance tuning.....and probably the most recognized name in the world.

One thing you can be sure of, that it will deliver solid numbers, fit like a glove, and come ready to be bolted in

Agreed. Alot of negativity on the forums. Why dont you people hold your tongues until you have some hard numbers in front of your face.

This promises to be a precision kit. and if it only delivers 75 HP it probbably has a sweet power band.

i still dont like the idea that it is self lubricated, but there is a good side to that as well!

As I stated in the other thread, I will reserve my judgement. Personally, I was just aggrivated with the price/performance ratio. Anyways, no one really knows anything concrete yet, so I guess we'll have to wait.

Actually I belive the kit will come with the FCON SZ and it will be locked. Much like the HKS/Garrett relationship there is an HKS/ Rotrex relationship. Certain elements to the s/c (housing, wheel design ect) are proprietary to HKS only. I'm sure the kit is pretty nice and reliable. I like to think of things this way, Id rather have 350 at the wheels and run the car around the track all day and drive home with out a worry with my only daily driver then have 365 and a broken rod or have doubt in the back of my head all the time. You may be bummed about the SZ but think if it this way, the FCON V PRO I believe uses the same harness. If I am wrong I was told they have a V PRO harness anyway. As was mentioned before it has an i/c and an oil cooler for the s/c. Someone already posted the pic of the engine, here are some more I took at IAS,:
