Default Front Mounted Intercoolers...

Ok, this may sound like a stupid question because I've never owned a F/I car before, but.....

Where the hell can you mount a freaking huge intercooler like the ones that come with the Greddy TT kit anywhere BUT the FRONT OF THE CAR!!!

I just think its hilarious. Why not just say Intercooler. All extravagant with Front Mounted Intercooler, almost like you decided to put it there because you think its ingenious and nobody else is doing it.

WOOOOO LET THE FLAMING BEGIN!

fmic is usually an upgrade to regular intercoolers since most turbo cars use side or top mount ics from the factory, therefore to most ppl an fmic is an upgrade. almost all aftermarket kits are going to have an fmic as this is the best place to put it since so much air flows over that area.

well there are top-mounted intercoolers, like what the WRX STi has. there are different types off intercoolers and i think its appropriate to have specific names for each of them. (if thats what you mean)

but there are these wierd intercoolers that come factory, like the really small ones that come in the jap skylines. they are so incredibly small, like the size of my incredible hulk lunchbox. i don't even know if that works effectively for anything other than a really small turbo.

oh sorry...it just seemed stupid to mount an intercooler anywhere else but the front because of all the air flow that you get.

My apologies!!!

there are plenty of reasons to not install an IC up front.....damge from debris is one, piping is another.

Heat soak issues (or less chance for them) are a good reason to install it up front.

Plusses and minuses exist for each type of air to air setup (front mount, V mount in engine bay and top mount), and each have been succesfully used thousands of times - how well it works is down to the normal points of consideration - quality of the IC, quality of the endtanks, quality of the welds, turbo or form of forced induction being used, tuning abilities and capabilities of your ecu and the person punching the keys, etc etc etc.

Well, I know most of the turbo cars have side mount intercoolers.
