Default Vortech Dyno Day-Belt Slip Problems

Hay Vortech guys,

Friday was my Dyno day. I arived at Rase Related @ 8:am Problem after problem.
First Race Related in St Pete, Florida is into Fords so he was not up on the Splitsecond box or software, Although I did leave him the software and instructions for him a week ahead of time. He never looked at it. He had a labtop but not the right cables. This took hours before we were hooked up- but now it was time for him to learn the software. Hes labtop would crash over and over so he went home to get the other labtop. We got hooked up and the batterys were dead- back home for the power supple. One more hour. finely were hooked up again- phone calls to SplitSecond so on and so on. @2Pm Time for 1St base run.
256hp @ 5300rpm / 266 tq Hp fell of after that. Hum Whats the problem? The belt was slipping- but we did not know that at the time. On the phone to Vortech-sent Dyno- No good info from Vortech. So we run #2 same thing this time I saw the boost fall back after 5000rpm- Belt Slipping. One more hour. I was ready to leave a solve the belt problem at home, But Jase at Race Related said -Oh I have no problem staying and putting a new belt on.
Now its 6PM. We got a new belt and I replaced it. Now it 7:30
Run #3- Belt slipping I shut it down @ 4800Rpm. Time to settle the bill and leave. James wanted $62.50 per hour and thought he worked 10.50 hours almost $700. but he would settle for $400- I gave $300. He made good money for going to school.
This was not my best Day, and I still have belt problems. Any Help
from you Vortech Guys...... Your thoughts.
Thanks!
Tim

you should only be able to turn the belt to 90 degrees when you twist it anymore and its to loose, any tighter and thats not good either.

I had the same problem with the belt also. I bought a new Gatorback one, and it was the same crap. I cross referenced it to a Gates belt, and problem solved.....If I remember correctly, the belt number for Gatorback is the same for the Gates.

Thanks Fluidz!
Why clould'nt Voertech Explain it that way (Simple)
Vortech would say tight but not to tight.
The problem I've been having is that its eating up the belt. Black belt powder all over my motor, Even when the belt was tight-maybe to tight. The vortech supplied belt 93-1/2 in was fine the first 500 miles, it got alittle loose so I tighted it, 500 miles later tighted it agin but was out of adjustment. No belt dust or slipping up to this point. I got a new 93 in belt and have had nothing but problems. I will take your advise and tighten it to your specs.
Hope every thing is going good with your car.
Thanks very much!
Tim

In my experience you should just barely be able to turn the serpentine belt upside down.

Also, watch to see if the serpentine belt rubs against any screws.

He actually is a big engine builder in the Lightning community. If you ever have engine problem or want a built motor, he's definitely the man for the job.

Keep at it, you'll find the power....then it will be all

i am in clearwater....

i will be doing the s/c install in early may, once i have broken in the motor...

pm me your info and lets talk... i have heard of several local tuners (we are close enought to be able to go to the same tuners) and will have confirmation on them prior to visiting...

when you installed the blower, did the belt slip immediately?? (i have had other vortech units, and have not had slippage ith decent belts)

beltdust is somewhat expected, but not enough to create a film of it... there sounds like an alignment probelm, or something..

lets talk, i would like to at least learn along with you (import FI is completely new for me, but i have run a 500+ bhp mustang, VERY successfully, after many edits to the original non-factory setup)

Today I Tighted the belt to maybe 170-180 degrees rotation.
Drove about 20 miles, was on it hard to 6500rpm/ 4th gear about 6 times. Had at least 7lbs + of boost did not seam to be slipping. But agin did have belt dust up by the blower serp belt, not alot but only 20 miles. ANY THOUGHTS!

ya its to lose, 90 degrees per COMPTECH USA...........they install blowers for a living everyday, thats all they do, at least its better than before, just try 90 degrees and see if its better, if not go back to 170 degrees or find a place in between 90 and 170

All I know is that with mine tightened to 180 degrees (i.e. just barely able to twist the belt upside down) the SS box sees 8.5 pounds of boost at 6500 rpms.

Looks like the belt problems are solved.
I think that the old belt was burned or glased, so no matter what I did it was slipping and leaving belt dust.
Thanks for the help Vortech Guys!
