That seems awfully high compared to what I've read in the forum.

Is this ridiculous?

Anyone know of a cheaper or better option?
In the Chicago area the normal price for an install for a greddy kit with fmic has been $1200-1500. So do your homework. Mission one -get greddy kit for 5800-6200 with fmic. avg $6,000.00 (at most $6,299.00)
Mission two -price good shops for install on kit. 1200-1500. avg $1,350.00
This comes to an average price of $7,350.00(installed)
Around $8,000.00 give or take a little for extra goodies like bov, gauges and other stuff.
This is based off of 5 different shops in this area. The most for an install was just under $2,000, but they said it depends what all you wanted.
I hope this helps.
Cheers: Jason

Okay, I'm learning a lot here. Many thanks for all replying !!!

fmic = Front mounted intercooler

bov =

gauges - What is recommended?

I've built many engines 289, 327, 390, 428, 460.....never done a TT though.

Should I attempt it myself?

$14,060. I can get really childish talking about how much of a rip off this is, but I won't.

Just shop around and take my advice. If you really want a turbo don't be afraid to drive a few hours.

Sorry guys, I was in betwen customers here and didn't really have time to pay attention to what I was reading or writing. Yes Greddy is a turbo kit (sorry)! The price that was quoted came from the Z that we just did. It included intercooler, pro fec b, turbo kit, bov, in car wide band O2 sensor, extra labor to custom fab guages into dash, custom fitting a mesh plate on the front bumper and paiting it, etc... So the price that was quoted contained much more than the basic install. I apologize that we quoted that without specifics, but there was much more done to that car than what we explained. I could probably come closer to the price that you guys are talking about if I knew what exactly was needed. Again sorry about the post before. I tried to edit once I realized what I posted but it was after the ten minute time limit. Thanks

40 hours, if its the first time installing the kit, is not unreasonable.

As the shops install more, the price comes down, as they learn their way around the kit, etc.

so, where is a good shop here in so cal....specifically the San Gabriel Valley. Someone here told me of a good shop right down the street where I work in Baldwin Park. Actually I live in Whittier near La Mirada/La Habra, so O.C would be fine as well.

Problem is, if you drive a few hours, who is going to fix it when things go wrong?? Towing it back to the place that put the kit on for a few hours is real expensive.

If not in a big city, TTs still scare me a little.

Street Image is the shop you are talking about. I've raved about Eric and Jeff before, and I would highly recommend them for the install. PM me if you want his number, or just PM Jeff (bobowah)...he owns the shop.

I COULDNT THINK OF A BETTER WAY TO SPEND 14K!!!! IT WAS GOING TO COST ME 20 K TO GET MY S4 TO PUT 330 WHP TO THE GROUND SO I TRADED IT FOR A Z. 14 K FOR 450 OR SO WHP SEEMS WORTH IT TO ME!!! I AM OF COURSE ASSUMING THAT FOR 14K YOU WOULD HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY TO COVER THE COST OF TUNING THE CAR TO 430-450 RWHP @ 8 OR SO PSI ?

Default $14k at Jotech in dallas

Believe it or not $14k is what Jotech in Dallas (garland) quotes. They put in their own fuel system and other stuff. I have the estimate sheet to prove it

For those freaking out, I'd love to hear people who had comparable work done chime in with how much they have paid. Mag bench racing is annoying, and that's what people are doing here basically. A shop can quote you $9k for a kit installed, and then a month later when it's all done and you've added this, and done that, you are up at 13-14k. I guarantee you we have TT cars that have put in over $20k (with more mods of course), or have put in from 10-14k, and then been back and added stuff and ended up near or north of this price.

Try and realize that no install is ever routine, and custom costs $$$.

Contact Z1 Motorsports in Temple, GA, they are doing mine for $7500 which includes the Greddy kit (not including intercooler) installed and dyno tuned. They are big in the Z32 community but they also do 350's.

ive seen the estimate and i believe it is very reasonable and the most all encompassing install ive seen.

The 14k that includes the clutch and the fuel system upgrades are necessary upgrades that nobody factors in when you want to run more than 7psi boost... also there is easily 2500 in there for guages and EM systems for necessary control of boost timing a/f ratios larger injectors..... if you want 9-10 psi and 450 rwhp this looks like a great price 14k... oh wait i guess you could just go buy a z06 and throw a blower on for 450 rwhp oh wait you still need to spend 10 grand on top of 50 grand.. Maybe a porsche gt3???? whoops 600k!!!! come on guys this is a good price for a reliable 450 rwhp monster that addresses all the tuning problems in one complete install and what a sweet car that must be when its finished!!!!! you cant compare this install to a stock greddy kit 6500 + 1200 install labor... this is just for the stock kit running 4.6 lbs of boost nothing more.

one thing i wanted to point out is just because you pay more for an install to get more safety features does not inherently make it more reliable. i do not agree with the assumption that you pay more for quality work, personally the only work i trust 100% is the work i do myself. if i get a tt kit i will install it myself then let someone else tune it. some of these extras that shops add on are unnecessary it is up to you to decide what you need to run with. i am still waiting to determine whether a turbo kit is even reliable on these motors, plz keep in mind that it is much too early to say that they can handle boost as most have only had tt kits for <10k miles most <5k. it is likely we will see lots of blown head gaskets, and definitely some other issues which will point out the weak spots in the drivetrain.
