Question For those w/ Walbro 255

I am trying to install my Walbro 255 but the damn thing doesn't fit. Has anyone had this problem during install? It seems to be a hair too long for the plastic clip on the bottom to snap in place. I have been filing the top and trimmed the rubber boot slightly. There has to be a way.

Sorry I cant help you. What kind of regulator are you installing, and where are you going to install it?

GQ,
Not sure on the location yet. I have a SARD type R. Need to figure out how pump fits first!

mprowe350:

You do have to shave a little but it sounds that you might not have it all the way in. I just had to make the opening bigger in the bottum clip and then it worked. As for the FPR I installed it right were the fuel line goes into the pump and the return it on the top plate for the fuel pump ***. were there is nothing on the plastic peace. next to the harness.

As mentioned a simple modification on the top plastic holder can make it fit in, lots of people running the pump in the factory location.

Where are they?

Thanks 12secz,
I have the parts in front of me and don't understand which top piece you are refering to. Are you talking about the plastic clip that locks the pump into place? Or are you talking about the top of the pump where the wire connection is? I can't get it to lock fully into place when trying by hand only one side will lock. I will try a pair of channel locks next but that is knid of scary around plastic.

I shaved the four tabs off the bottom of the pump with a razor. After that it fit good, a little tight which is nice because the rubber insulator is not there now.

On the top of the pump there are two ***** with metal in the middle of them (next to the female part that the wires clip into). If you compare your old pump with the walbro you will notice that the two ***** are quite a bit shorter on the stock pump. I just used a dremel and shaved them down. I didn't have to shave off any of the bottom four pieces, but I had to really force the pump to fit. It would probably be easier to shave a little off the four bottom pieces as well, but don't shave too much.

Thanks to all who helped me. I finally got the pump to fit after some mods to it and seriously forcing it. Regulator is soon to come and I hope it's easier!

How does the car run with just the pump. Any change in idle, drivability, or richness? Is it noiser than stock?

I will post some results tomorrow after putting the pump back into the tank. The pump assembly is together and ready for install.
