vortech install pricing
okay, I went to a performance center today, and they quoted me 2,100 for the instal of a vortech kit, JWT clutch & flywheel. This includes dyno tuni9ng and R4 programming.
Is this a good/reasonable deal?
thanks for any input!

I did it myself and it is very easy to do and very hard to screw up. If you have a few hand tools and are even semi-mechanically inclined, I would recommend doing it yourself and using the money you save to get something else...

you get what you pay for most the time, I payed $1,200.00 for my install, included vortech, test pipes, pulley swap, gauges, and grill cut out removal and untuned dyno. I was charged 65.00 an hour, took 20 hours or so for everything..........car runs great no problems at all.

The instructions are fairly thorough and easy to understand. The only part I can recall that is incorrect and required a little creative plumbing is connecting the BOV to the engine vacuum. The vacuum line on the engine is 1/8" ID and the BOV is 5/16" ID so I have to go buy an adapter. You do have to splice into the ECU for Crank position, MAF, cam timing, power and ground. The whole install really was not that difficult, just labor intensive.
Yet they said it would take around 30 hours, they charge 65 a hour, so I figured around 2,000-2,100. so if it doesn't take them that long, then it shouldn't cost me that much.
65 a hour is a normal rate right?

My installer charged $750 for the kit install and $500 for the R4 tuning. The Infiniti dealer charged $450 to install my clutch and flywheel. I consider those fees to be premium pricing, but I felt it was worth it in both cases due to the expertise/experience factor.
