Default aem wideband question

I will receive my vortech kit next week and need to order the aem wideband. What is the difference between single and dual channel? Also what is lamda?
Lastly do i need the aem computer to run the single or dual channel a/f sensor? So many people giving me different answers.
Thanks in advance.

lambda is just a way of displaying a/f ratio. For gasoline, a 14.7:1 Air fuel ratio in Lambda is 1 Lambda is based on stoichiometric measurements.

Here is a link to a good Lambda calculator for various fuels.

Single and dual channel usually indicates that it could control one or two O2 sensors. AFAIK, the AEM wideband is only available in a single channel setup.

You shouldn't need any AEM computer to run the new AEM wideband setup. It is self contained.

Yup....what Jessie said...
The AEM unit is fully self-contained in the guage and harness assembly....no puter is needed. If you want to datalog, you can do so in the Profec e-01, or you can hook up a laptop to the eManage and data log there.

Also note....the one drawback of the AEM is that it only measures A/F as rich as 11:1. I would prefer a unit that measures as rich as 10:1...just for kicks. Ideally, you wanna tune for about 11.5:1 at redline....but its nice to see just how rich you really are. And many times, the greddy kit is sub 11:1 all the time out of the box.

oh cool! one more update. I just attached the AEM output wire to my Profec...and it will display the full range of AF's on the screen....from about 9.7 to 19:1!!! For some reason, the AEM guage brackets the voltage from .5-4.5 Not sure why the hell it would do that...but that's why the AEM only displays 11:1 to 17:1 on the screen. But on my Profec...it displays the full range!

i decided to spring for three gauges.....

looks like, for now, i will be installing two only..... (and just leaving them hanging/sitting on the dashpod, i guess)

i am geting (autometer silver series) Boost press in ft-lbs, Fuel Press in ft. lbs, and a/f ratio.....

i am on 'the list' for the crawfors cats, and doug is gonna weld an exta O² sensor on the cat for the a/f gauge.... so this will be done in a few weeks down the road....

and then im still trying to find an a-pillar solutiuon for my car..... a definite answer would be great!!

keeping in mind, i need a G solution that is.....

expensive monitoring setup indeed, but the motor is still even more...

Hey Esemes, I went with a 3 A-pillar gauge mount from Autometer. Is the A-Pillar for the G the same for the Z? If so you might be able to use that. I'm putting DEFI Oil Temp, DEFI Fuel Pressure and AEM Gauge Type Wideband O2 Uego Controller. I'll be using my Profec E-01 to monitor boost.

Hey esemes the DEFI I got should have amber glow. They are the D-Gauge. The are also 52mm. I'll pm you a place to check out. See what you think.

one more question. is there any different aem wideband a/f sensors or do they make only one. The reason im asking is my local shop says he needs to phone aem with my type of car so they can send the right bosch o2 sensor. apparently some are longer than others.

freezeg35, I think AEM wideband is made for all cars and is not car specific. There is however 2 types of wideband from AEM.

1 is the AEM gauge type Wideband UEGO Controller and this is single channel.

2. AEM Wideband UEGO Controller (Single or Dual Channel).

The difference is one is the new gauge type and the other has no gauge but has output for aftermarket standalone EMS.

NIIIIIIIICE.
I just got my copy of import tuner and the AEM gauge showed excellent accurancy compared to the NTK. The only prob is that the AEM went off line under 11:1, but the good thing is that the NTK was in the sub 11:1 range. I was ruling out the AEM until I seen this post.

AEM should send you like $50 or something!
