Default VORTECH install W.I.P....need help!!

brethern....

i am about 75% thru the instll of the v-2 vortech (dealer ship is doing the work, as mentioned before) and i am VERY concerned with clearance issues regarding the mammoth mounting bracket....

not only does the blower pulley (front maindrive side) seem to be LESS than 1/16" clear of the blower housing.... [see below]

but SEVERAL of the main bracket bolts (attach to the front of the motor, with small spacers (why?)) appear to be too close to let stay as - is....... my dealer isnmt worried about it, but i am!!! they are donna chamfer the head of the bolt on the one ½ that is closest to the belt edge, to add some cleareances.... is this normal fellas?? [see below]

a solution??? or band-aid???

i tend to over think things sometimes, but this is something that i see creating several issues down the road.... the least would be belt dust, but im thinking the belt might walk off the pulley (even a BC hair) and make contact...

can anyone help me with their setup??

the above last two pics are not of the actual bolts in question, but rather photos i had here of a vortech install..... (if that helps at all)

i couldnt get a down-shot to come out accurately....

Dont sweat it . I noticed how close the belt is to every thing also. Its actually a good thing. Every time I hear the belt hitting one of them bolts on start up .Its time to tighten up your belt . I got about 500 miles on it and heard it hit it and the belt squeeled too . I tightened up the belt and I was good to go . Hope every thing goes good...you will love the new power

dosent matter weather you have 5 inches of clearance or 1/32" of clearance, either it rubs or it dosent rub, if things are moving you gonna have a problem even if you had the 5 inches of clearance. I have minimal clearance and my car runs awesome with zero rubbing, zero dust, do it right and you be ok

I agree FLU.......

the tight tolerances are a must due to the lack of romm to make this thing fit... my biggest concern are the spacers for the bolts (mounting the bracket-plate) and the effect they have on the belt-plate tolerances....

you have zero dust??? excellent (i know its possible, now) i have seen one Vor install (this weekend) and there were several small 'piles' of dust around the RHS of the main belt run....

im off to review my progress, and get the correct boost gauge for installation (have the 30lb gauge, whereas the 20lb gauge will show much more movement, and accuracy)

thanks for the support fellas!

scott

ps- anyone know where to tap the fuel pressure gauge into (isolator i mean).. i am using this until i get my crawford cats(with extra O² bung welded to it).....

The kit is a real tight fit, but its very well made and fits perfect, no rubbing issues. I dont have any dust at all off my belt.
Time taken in installation pays dividends.

most of the clearance issues have been addressed now, but i have a few others worth asking about......

here's the bolt-head solution....

as for fitment of the vortech BOV filter (excellent piece, that is custom molded!!), well, it cannot fit on my setup (the stab. bar is in the way, and, if i reversed the BOV 180°, then it would outlet in the wheel-well, PAST the fender liner ... making water easily thrown on/in it...)

next, the lower corner-located plastic skids seem to touch the intercooler in many places.......

should we just cut them out, or, let them touch, or what????

I used the SPX fuel tap to tap into the fuel line for a pressure gauge. Your belt clearances look just like mine.

First..the kit looks incredible from underneath the car...very nice.

Second, can someone explain this FPR tap? I wanna do the same thing in my car, but tap the fuel line somewhere in the engine bay for my Aeromeotive 1:1 FPR. Anyone have any ideas on the easiest location to do this?

Sorry for the partial hijack.

Thanks!

Oh, the only reason I mentioned it is my buddy's belt displayed minor signs of rubbing...and wear. It's just really really close....thats all.

Hey...are these belts something you can tighten on the fly with simple tools?

Yes. The serpentine belt is tightened using the stock idler pulley tensioner. The cog pulley belt is even easier to tighten.

UPDATE::

car was briefly started, to inspect belt tracking, operation, etc...

all looks good, so far

but that BOV shreik !!!!!

it only happens at about 50rpm's in the revv range..... the sound goes away by covering the top of the BOV.....

this CANNOT be the norm.... i mean, its outrageous (and the vortech i heard this weekend was dead silent)

should i adjust the topnut?? ifso, clockwise or counter??

the BOV filter wont fit on this car, due to the mamoth front stabil. bar.. (bov filter will be a for sale item soon!)

help??

-eS

close..... oh soooo close.......

update2:::

vortech is asking for a minor topnut adjust to help the BOV seal completely....

they also sed that the BOV could be replaced with a 'BYPASS VALVE" instead, which would be operationally more quiet..

this is all new to me...

anyone have any ideas on this BYPASS (instead of BLOW-OFF)conversion idea???

We put a stiffer spring in the Blow-off valve. Gives it more of the swish sound when it blows off the air. I could send you the spring if you want. We also have a filter to put on the valve that may quiet it down a little.

okay......

the filter (got it with the kit from Vor) wont fit, as it contacts the stabilizer bar (no room for it)

i am game for the stiffer spring, but, am not sure this doesnt risk damage anywhere else... (forgive my greenness to this setup)

so, does adjusting the topnut NOT fix the leak (and subsequent screeech!)

thanks

Filter doesn't fit?! Nice. Well, the spring you have is actually the stiffer one. The other will not cause damage anywhere.
