Default Untuned Vortech safe???

I have seen others that are running this kit untuned. Vortech seems to say that this kit is ready as a bolton. I was wondering what experience you guys have that have done this, and if it is safe to you. From what I have seen, the kit runs real rich from vortech, and there seems to be some people on this site running the kit untuned. Would love to hear some input from these guys.

Also, it does seem hard to find guys with experience with the SS box, seems like you could run around untuned til you get your complete setup done(exhaustwise), then take it to get tuned.

I was told by my installer to drive the car untuned for around 2,000 miles to ensure the ecu dosent do anything funny. Right now my car is very very safe untuned......runs fat but fat is better than lean and from what ive learned the 350Z ECU is a bit*H and has multiple fuel maps depending on conditions. I have driven around 1,000 miles so far untuned and man it runs awesome. In a bit I will tune her to 11.4:1 A/F

yeah, the main difficulty is finding someone who knows how to tune the software correctly.

OUT of the box, mine bloats fuel pressure up to 100lbs (close)

a/f ratiometer to come ...........

id say its plug-n-play safe, but you cannot be 100% sure w/o dynometer testing

if installed correctly, as long as that SS box was programmed right and didnt slip thru quality control... the car is very safe... to point of too safe. If you keep it untuned... watch for miss firing after some miles, plugs will need to be changed every couple thousand. Also consider changing your oil more often, running that rich gets fuel in the oil.

Well, that is great info, thanks phunk. Let's me know that you shouldn't run it untuned for very long. Man, by the time you get a total exhaust system plus the SC tuned, you are talking TT money.

i still highly recommend a dyno test with airfuel datalogging to ensure proper installation and setup of the car. This kit is about as in depth with piggybacks as you can possibly go, and the car is highly dependent on these parts being installed correctly... there is a rising rate FMU, an additional fuel pump, and a digital fuel and ignition recalibrator... all 3 are depended on highly.

So if you cant find someone to tune it... try to at least get the car tested before putting it on the street... or install your own wideband display/logger.
