Post Xtreme hot weather driving... oil temps are decent..

Drove the Z to work today since my carpool left me this morning..

it reached 107*F today where i'm at (mojave) and i thought, hell i'll take some more oil temp readings.

while on/off max boost (8.5) and driving around for 15 minutes from hangar to hangar with a heat soaked intercooler, i got the maximum oil temp to read 227*F and while cruising around i got the oil temp to stablize around 200*F. i have the stock plastic undercarriage installed with the flap for the oil drain plug removed...

car felt sluggish, but no ping and i was using 91 octane....

Smile How to proceed...

Cheston:

What plan do you propose to improve heat issue?

Sprayer on intercooler?
Oil radiator? Offset out board in own air flow.
Bigger water radiator?

Would using a higher ratio of water/antifreeze and using a heavier sprung radiator cap help keep the motor cooler?

my plans for reducing under-hood heat-

1. Vented Hood. I believe this would eliminate a majority of heat caused during driving .. i'd estimate up to 30 degrees cooler than what i'm reading now, since its allowing air to pass thru the radiator and flow more freely.

2. undercarriage.. venting.. perhaps cut more slits into the undercarriage plastic near the oil pan to allow more air to it.. when i ran with out the undercarrige.. i had oil temps reading around 70*C.. wWWaaay low.

3. Intercooler Sprayer unit with a 50%water 50% alcohol content to reduce intake temps..

4. Dont drive in the heat..

readings look good.. the max oil temp i've gotten in my NA Z is 104C (water temp at 95C, ambient temp around 30C).. seems like even in pretty tough conditions the PE oil pan with added capacity is really working out well

I've been watching my DEFI Oil temp gauge and it stays around 200*F to 220*F. No added oil capacity.
