Default Vortech and the oil pan

Is it possible to install an oil cooler and use its lines for the oil return on a Vortech?
Has anyone priced out the cost of replacing the pan? My concern is returning my car to stock when its time to sell it.

Thats not a bad idea if you could find one big enough however it may be hard to find a place to fit it. An easier solution would be to buy a S/C kit where you don't need to tap the pan. For example the ATI supercharger kit.

I agree the Procharger is an easier solution. What I dont like is it requires extra $$ to make it safe.
I called JWT and their oil pan spacer kit can be used for the oil return but it would require an added piece to get it above the oil sea level. They said they will offer this piece when their turbo kit is available. Seems like it would be easy to tap it and and some pipeing to it.

If you buy the ATI tuner kit (which is less expensive) then you can use the extra money to buy injectors and the ecu flash. They are about the same price.

I still do not understand why people are so down on the drilling of the oil pan. It takes about 20 minutes or so to do and it does have the added benefit of a constant flow of fresh oil to the SC.

Its not a big deal to me at all. My concerns are with cost in returning the car to stock when its time to sell it. How expensive is the aluminum pan to replace? What sort of time would it take to do it too?
The JWT $99 spacer seems worthwhile to save the cost and time of replacing the oil pan.

the price i got for the upper oil pan was $85 but thats cause my friend works at nissan and thats at cost. i asked that question also cause i was just going to buy the oil pan, drill that one and have the the other one just like you said "if i sell the car". but someone told me you can not take off the upper oil pan unless you take out the whole motor.

Honestly I would not worry about this when "returning it to stock". For a few bucks you can get a aluminum 3/8" NPT plug that will plug the hole. I would be more concerned about how do you cover-up the fact that you spliced into the ECU harness (i.e. cut the wires).

Yet another reason to go with the ATI tuner kit. Just have the ECU reflashed... This is assuming you want the car to look stock.

Constant flow can be good assuming your engine and blower are running perfectly? If one is not running at an ideal temp or breaks into small peices, it is a very bad thing. Is it worth the risk? Either way it is never better than a self sufficient/feeding system like the ATI kit. There are many reasons why people don't like to tap the pan but the fear of something going worng is enough for me.

here we go again.........

domestic versus import

z versus g

s/c versus tt

vort. versus ati

when does it end??

never, i hope..........

there are pro's and cons to both systems, this is for certain (and beat to near death on 10's of threads!!lol), but the engineers at vortech and ati BOTH believe firmly in their designs......

the pan-tap is rather simple, especially if you lift the car (and remove the lower pan anyway.....) like styated above, a simple npt plug would satisfy any hole left if you were to remove the system....

on my first vortech, i used the drainplug as the return (home made install) till i learned better.......

dont fret it, its okay, just be diligent in the procedure (or do what i did, let the dealer take responsibility for the tap!!lolol)

and when you take the car into a dealer, and they hook the consult up to the ecu, it will show them an ecu mismatch. I know, I tried to have the dealer reflash mine back to stock. Once you get the technosquare reflash, they are the only ones who can touch it.

This is true but not a problem. You would send it back to TS for them to put it back to stock. After that a dealer can't tell the difference.

Geez my original post was
"Is it possible to install an oil cooler and use its lines for the oil return on a Vortech?
Has anyone priced out the cost of replacing the pan? My concern is returning my car to stock when its time to sell it."
How did we get this far off??!

Taking my car in tomorrow to Lokey for an alignment, John said your car is their for some new stuff? I am going to discuss my supercharger install with him too..

Are you sure? This is not what Tadashi told me the last time I spoke with him. I will check tomorrow.

They also told me there would be no way for the dealer to know, but thats not what I discovered on my own.
