Default Analyzing TDO5-18G greddy turbos on a built motor

Hello all I've made an engine demand line chart based on the greddy Tdo5-18g turbos that are part of the Greddy TT kit.

This gives an idea of what Psi potential the greddy kit can run on a fully built motor and at what rpm.

This also gives those running the greddy kit on the stock block a good idea of the efficiency range they are running at the lower boost levels.

Based on this chart i fully understand why the gredy kit HAS to use very large turbos at realtivly low boost pressure like 6 psi for example.

The 6000 rpm line cuts straight through the heart of the TD05-18g's efficiency at virtually all boost pressure. These turbos are a very good match to a larger displacement motor like the VQ35DE is when using low boost pressure.


Based on this chart looks like at 6500-7000 rpm shift points @ 25 psi these Turbos are fully capable.

Can you say 700whp?
Somebody get the tuning down for this kind of boost i wanna see some dynos!!!!

slay...I am worried about you...stop modding your 350Z immediately and go get a girlfriend.


Squill, this is really cool. So even at 9-12psi, which is within striking distance of a stock motor, we're closing in on some pretty damn good efficiency. I like it!

Yea i was analyzing some smaller flow charts in Lbshoks thread about building ur own turbo kit and by plotting engine Cfm demand on a Td05-16G it became clear why the Greddy kit uses such big turbos for such low boost.

The VQ motor is a fairly large motor as far as turbos go and flows alot of CFM.

The problem is we have a bigger engine that flows a good abount of air however since it was not designed with turbos in mind we have the rod problem which limits the amount of boost we can run.

The problem is you need a turbo that flows a large amount of cfm at lower compressor speeds thus you need a compressor wheel with a larger surface area to move the volume of air required at the lower boost pressure.

The td05 16g simply does not flow the cfm required by the vq engine at low boost pressure anywhere near as efficiently as the Tdo5 18g does.

The nice thing is the 18G offers tons of room to increase hp on a built block while also providing good response on a stock motor due to the 10.3 compression ratio.

There are going to be some monster 350Z's in the future!!!

man o man....you tuners...too much time on your hands...thats why i love you all....you make it possible to make my 350z non streetable anymore....the day i have to garage this car....i think im gunna cry.... nice work though, im also looking at redoing the stock internals and reinforcing them so i can run on a daily basis 18psi most likely....maybe tune it down to prolong the life of the vehicle....anyways nice work though like slay 2k said....

This is great seems that from 15 - 21psi is the sweet spot but very capable at 25. We will see some Z monsters.

GT-30 MiGHT be to big to fit your current manifold location how much room is left in there for a wider assembly?

Maybe you upgrade the compressor housing on your current gt28r turbos ......if i remember correctly the gt28rs "disco potato"
Is essentially the same turbine housing with a gt-30 compressor housing but dont quote me on that i need to search around...

I will make you a engine demand line compressor chart for your current gt 28r turbo asap and as now im curious as well ill see if i can fing some info on the gt-28r and see if the compressor housing can be bored out for a larger compressor wheel or ur current turbine housing if it can be mated to a larger garrett compressor housing wich im pretty sure it can and would work well if the space you have would allow it!

Ok here is a gt28r compressor map with engine demand lines...
Looks like they are good for 7000rpm @ 18psi but close to the choke line ...real close probably want to run 16 psi

Roughly good for 500-520 whp 15-16 psi i would guess!

Very responsive turbos still running 72% efficiency @ 18 psi at shift points ...very high.

seems like 30r would be too much turbo (if there is such a thing!)

GT28R:
Turbine
-Wheel: 53mm w/ 62 trim

GT28RS:
Turbine
-Wheel: 53.85mm w/ 76 trim

Yea the gt 30 is a little big however if you wanted to build ur motor for 8000 rpms + there is your turbo!!!!!

I know that this is one hell of a thread resurrection, but could you make an engine demand line comperssion map for the PE1420 turbos. I think that it maybe of good use on the forum.

I have the bare compressor map that i just received from PE. Please let me know. Much appreciated.
