Angry Nismo has now snapped.

As you may have read from my earlier posts, the Nismo exhaust had started to crack around the flange on the centre section of the exhuast. I got this welded up and refitted yesterday. Well, driving back from the gym today and it clean snapped in half near the new weld. AAAAAAAARRRGH!!!
I just cant work out what is stressing this system so much.

It turned out to start at the weld then move away from it. The tubing itself actually snapped. I havent had the car up on the ramps as it only happened tonight, but the whole pipe has snapped off now.

Hey sorry to hear of the problem with exhaust..............have a look on the APS web site...............look closely at the exhaust system..............this will give you an idea as to why your exhaust is suffering from fatique.

Mate I believe that you need flexible couplings in the exhaust system............like we have in the APS cat back exhaust...........this helps to reduce the stress on the exhaust system............hope this helps.

Did you have problems with aftermarket cats as well at one point? Almost seems like a broken motor mount allowing the engine to twist too much. I have had decent luck with my Nismo exhaust. I have even snagged the exhasut on a trailer which keep the car from rolling off even at a step angle. I would also belive it should be warranty even with the blower.

sorry to hear this mate

i know the LAST thing you wanna do is to have to spend more money, but... it'd be a safe bet to swap out the Y pipe (i think thas the one you talking about) for the FUJI Y pipe instead. It has the flex-pipe to it (with braiided coverings) so as to help prevent stress on the joints...

heres my fuji Y pipe (they are the makers of the nismo, so it should fit, hopefully)

This is the thing, the Nismo has the flexible joints in the Y pipe exactly like the one above. My engine mountings are definately okay.
The problem I had with the cats was to do with the brace that runs across the middle and links the cats together. The kinetix cats have the bracket welded directly to the outside wall of the cat and not onto a load bearing pad as it should be. In the end it just ripped the bracket clean off the cat.

This has happened to a friend also with the Nismo and kinetix cats (he doesnt have the Vortech).
His tabs also started to break away from the cats and then snapped off. He ended up taking the cats off the car and removing the tabs, welding the hole up and putting them back on the car.
I cant see how this is causing a problem further down the system as the flexible joints are downstream of the cats and provide adequate movement for the system.

Does this make sense Esemes?

Spoke to Kinetix and they are aware of the problem and are now welding the tabs onto a pad which is welded onto the cat wall.

aha!!

so when the tab failed, it actually left an opening in the wall of the cat (by design of the nounting tab)....

look at this mount next, tell me your thoughts

is it different, or am i doomed to have a failure?? (In YO)

Thats a different design cat (crawford?) so you will probably be ok. The wall on the Kinetix cats was very thin, I thought.
Is it a double skin on those cats??

esemes the nismo comes with that exact flex pipe. It might be residual from the cats/bracket problem. Still should be covered under warranty baptist.

I had the same problem with my right cat, but it was a stock one. The bracket that attaches the cat to the brace cracked and was rattling like crazy until I got it replaced. I have the Nismo Exhaust on it as well. Maybe the exhaust was torqued down too much?
