The HKS kit uses a FCON S or SZ, cant recall which one. They are essentially the same tho. The FCON S series is like a Greddy E-Manage except it has the ability to reduce injector pulse width, so that you can run larger injectors without having to play with MAF signal voltage. However it appears that HKS choose to keep the quality factory injectors, and add in a pair of additional injectors to provide the extra fueling once boost comes in.
The FCON does have timing control, but I need to find out from HKS if they did actually pull out timing. But I would have to naturally assume that they did since its wiring harness is already setup for it, and it would be easy as pie for them to pull out some timing in the maps.
You must all remember, the FCON systems are not owner tunable. They are only tunable by authorized HKS Prodealers, such as us, and a few others. Not just any HKS dealer is allowed to have the software and hardware key to tune the FCON's. I beleive there are 12 Prodealers in the USA.
It will not need you to tune it, it will be safe and conversative like it should be.
Keep in mind that since the car runs on a MAF system, it does NOT need tuning changes when volumetric efficiency is increased thru methods such as camshafts, plenums, etc. The MAF sensor will always see the additional air coming in, and therefore the stock ECU and the FCON together will realize this airflow and add fuel as required.
I beleive the FCON in this kit is setup using the additional MAP sensor, so heres my best guess on whats going on in there... I think that the main fuel tables are left untouched so the car runs like stock for the most part. I beleive they would be using only the additional injector map based on RPM and MAP to add fuel thru the secondary injector set. So basically if you were at 4000 RPM and 4psi of boost, than the stock ECU would be putting in its normal ammount of fuel, which would be too lean of course, and then the FCON is on top of that putting in whatever ammount of fuel the additional injector map is told to do at 4 psi and 4000RPM in order to get the target A/F that HKS prescribed for that moment. If the airflow at 4000 RPM and 4psi was greater due to higher volumetric efficiency, the airflow meter is still going to see this and the stock ECU would be putting in more fuel... sure since the FCON is on speed density, it wouldnt be doing more... but you would have to have a 4.3L stroker and some ported heads with big cams to get far enough off that you would need to retune it...
last but not least, this ENTIRE post is my speculation and best guesses based on information I have, and none of this is first hand from HKS.
The FCON systems are the superior ways to do things... unfortunatly they are just not user programable. Sometimes things can be better/safer that way tho.

Thanks phunk. That is what I wanting to hear . . .even if it is your assumption. (It was mine as well, I just wanted to see if thats what others thought too.)
I think this kit may raise the bar for the others. Just looking at the few pics I really like it. I also think I am the only one who likes the smaller intercooler. I am sure it gets the job done.
Too bad I am not a FI junkie, I would probably buy this kit. After all N/A mods are complete, who knows.

i dont mind the smaller intercooler either. my 350 engine bay is so damn hot all the time now with this huge greddy FMIC blocking all the air. im glad i got this vented hood. when i pull over the louvers in the hood are too hot to touch for more than a few seconds. I literally can leave the car for 4 hours, get in it and turn it on, and its still at operating temp!!

Hey phunk,
Can the HKS supercharger for the 350Z be used for the auto tranny? Remember the issues with many of the other superchargers that the Z engine hits the rev limiter before the tranny shifts gears in full auto mode? If the current HKS supercharger is just for manual tranny 350 Zs, do you have any inside info that HKS is going to make it available for the A5T??? Damn soon I hope… I have also heard a rumor that because of the planetary rollers, the HKS supercharger spools up faster than other centrifugal superchargers like the Vortech and Procharger. I heard it spools up (better throttle response) quite a bit faster. Have you heard anything on that. Sounds like a good kit. I mean with 80 + hp for the supercharger at the wheels and add in the coming HKS true dual exhaust, you should be right at 400 hp at the engine. I know that’s not quite as much power as some of the other kits, but reliability is an issue and HKS has a good track record. I also hear you don’t have to change the supercharger oil except like every 100,000 miles. That’d be great as well. And I heard the air filter is easy to change wtih the HKS kit and I’ve heard it is not easy to change the air filter with the Vortech kit. I hope HKS will eventually offer this HKS setup for the A5T Z with all the shifting issues worked out. Hoping to hear from you fast with good news.
