Default 9lb pulley tuned...bummmed

I got the car tuned today....9lb pulley and adjusted the BOV...car was feeling alot stronger......After the first pull on the dyno...I was bummed...made less hp and .6 lb's more boost .Belt is TIGHT. After we got the fuel evened out to 11.8 to 12.2 A/F the hp curve looked just the same as before the 9 lb pulley...a little less in a few spots . We did the timing maps and ended up with 10 more hp up top , where Vortech had all the timing taken out .I made .6 lb more boost all across the rpm range but lost hp in spots . When I got home I looked at the last settings we loaded into the SS box. The settings for the A fuel pump are not right...set at rpm AND pres.....1000rpm and 7 lb boost .Going to find a laptop and change them . Does ANY ONe got any idea why Im not making only 7.6 on a 9lb pulley ??????

well, I'm only making 6.9psi with the 8psi pulley. It looks like more and more vortech owners are not getting maximum boost. weird.

Y'all be careful with that R4 software. You didn't take out less timing did you? Sooner or later we're going to have a blown up engine with a Vortech kit.

Zimbo.....I used your timing maps for a guide . I didnt get exactly as yours but close . It doesnt shift at all in auto at WOT bounced off rev limiter at 7,200rpm when we checked to see if it would shift .I got a laptop for later today...gonna make sure the settings are right and finish the timing .If it doesnt shift after that , Im calling Vortech...and maybe technosquare...see what they think . Im also going to count the teeth on the cog, and blower pulley to see if I have the right pulleys .I checked every vacuum line and intercooler piping for pinched line or leaks and didnt find one .We checked the boost by recording a run on the SS box...and the dyno was with in a 1/10 of the SS

bill-

my tuner (sam) just had an A/T 350Z come in, with the vortech, and it wasnt shifting at WOT either.... he couldnbt get it to run about 5XXX rpm (WOT) either...

took him two days to figure it out, but HE DID, and mapped it very well..

i think you should call me; maybe he can shed some light for ya!

ps- i have another idea for a pulley combo in the werkes!

Starting to think that the Vortech is maxed out as far as boost .But dont understand why some are getting the 9lb's and then some and why me and others cant make 8lb with 9 lb pulley

Booger,

It is mysterious that some of us are getting much more boost than others. I am getting almost 10 lbs of boost at 6800 rpms with my 9 lb pulley. Whatever the problem is, I don't think it is an issue with the SC being maxed out.

My best guess is that somewhere you have an air leak. If we know that your system is turning its impeller at the same speed as mine. Then laws of physics would indicate that you are forcing the same amount of air. Thus, if you are forcing the same amount of air, but getting less boost, there must be something that is robbing you of pressure (e.g., a leak).

Did I miss something? Am I over simplifing the situation?

BOOG-

TJIS COMPRESSOR CAN RUN OVER 20LBS I THINK....

LETS LOOK ELSEWHERE FOR THE REASON... (HOW ARE YOU DOUBLE-CHECKING THE BOOST AMOUNT??)

caps OFF

sorry

Ive checked every connection . The only thing that you really cant check is the BOV.....How the hell can you check it when your under max boost at red line . I got a laptop ..but it doesnt have a com port....dam new puters...Does any one know if you can use a USB port to tranfer map, and settings changes to the piggyback ECU ?

You can use a USB-to-Serial connector.

The compressor is indeed maxed out with the 9lb pulley @ 7000 rpms, at least according to the calculator provided by Vortech.

just PMed you about that . And yes the blower maxed out....I went to 7,200 rpm when we did a run to see if and when it shifted and never seen above 7.6 lbs of boost...and got 7.6 at 6,500 rpm's also

Then the whole problem make sense now because if u max out the blower u will only generate heat and not CFM. U might make a little more power here and there in the RPM range. So even if u run 10psi now u might only see minimal gains over what u have now and u will notice an increase in IAT. Did u guys ever think about upgrading the head unit? Are there any other vortech head units that can fit on the same bracket?

Booger

There is an adapter for everything. Run down to your local computer store and find one that works.

Otherwise if you want to order one, you might try www.newegg.com. I just checked under adapters and it looks like they have a USB to serial port adapter for about $14.

Hope this helps.

You wouldnt think that each blower isnt that much diff. The tolerences for this blower are real close and they all should produce about the same boost . So we have to think there are leaks . Ive checked and cant find a loose one any where . So I have to think its the BOV

I got the connectors I need...thought I was dumb...first guy at Radio shack said I couldnt use the USB to serial port. Went back to get it and the second guy knew exactly what I wanted to do and knew about piggyback ECU's
