Default help with oil pan tap for Vortech

Hey guys, i am one step away from finishing my Vortech install and have come to a simple but very frustrating problem. i need to tap the oil pan so that i can thread the hose into it. The problem is that i cant find any store that carries the right size tap i need to tap the pan. I went to home depot, sears, lowes. Neither of them have it, they have ones either too big or too small. For you guys that installed this yourselves, where did you get yours and what size was it???

i found mine finally at a pipe fitting shop, its and 3/8NPT which stands for pipe thread, so youll need to find a plumbers warehouse or supply house, and i also got the tapered tap.

hey guys, i got everything installed, tapped the oil fine, and its running good....but now theres an oil leak. It's not bad, just one drip every 5 min or so. did you guys use any sealant on the tapped pan or the oil feed T bracket? if so, what kind?

I used GE Household Silicone Sealant from Lowes on the threads and around the base. Did it early, so had almost two days to set up.

Just a friendly FYI, NPT fittings (pipe thread) should be sealed with teflon tape or something similiar. I prefer tape over a teflon paste, as i hate to chance any paste getting inside.

Also, when tapping an NPT hole, do not go so far as to have the widest part of the tap going completly through the hole, as then things will fit too loosley.

another FYI, automotive "AN" fittings do not get the teflon tape or sealent treatment. I'm sure you'll come across AN fittings if you haven't already.

Nice job on your DIY:-)

thanks guys, the sealer i used is holding great...actually, the main problem why it was leaking was because my friend was lazy and thought that the T bracket was tight enough when it obviously wasnt. i know that because now that it is on tight, there is no extra threads showing, like when he did it. So now everything runs great! and the BOV is crazy loud! I love it!
