Default 9lb pulley installed

finally got around to installing my 9lb pulley, actually the 3.12 serp pulley. i paid 70$ for the pulley and 30$ for the belt, from superchargersonline, so 100$ i think is worth it. the install wasnt too difficult, i had to remove 3 of the 4 large bolts that hold the blower to the bracket so it could slide down and the pulley could be changed, i had to remove the upper piping and MAF to get to it all. took about 1.5 hours total.

definitely butt dyno improvement, the boost comes on much quicker, i could slowly feel the boost kick in around 3000 before, but now it comes on quicker and i can really feel myself being pushed into the seat harder. there is a definite point now where i can FEEL the boost kick in. also my previous boost gauge would max out at 7.5 psi at redline, now im reaching that much sooner, like around 5500. and the needle jumps up faster.

also my blower doesnt have that clanky bearing noise at idle rpms like before, but that might be because i loosened my cog belt, i think it was too tight.

yep, but blown engine=built engine, so i dont think thats a bad thing!

i havent had it retuned, but i made some minor adjustments to help with the extra boost, im going to the dyno asap.

my impressions exactly TIG.....

the mapping wasnt far off from where i wound up after tuning, but it did need a lil lean out in the mids (and of course a bit of adjust at top)......

expect 10-15 peak power, but the real deal is the midrange improvement......

im glad you sed it too.. (being able to "feel" the boost...) i concur 100%

now, whos' gonna go 2.78"?

isn't there a pulley we can get between the 3.12" and the 2.78"? I seem to recall one at or close to 3.00".

BTW, great work guys! Since I was already making a little over 400rwhp, I was reluctant to be one of the first to jump on this mod. Now that I'm hearing peak doesn't jump much, I probably will do soon. Looking for earlier power, not necessarily more power in my case.

Also, those who have stepped before, I know you would recommend retuning for the new pulley. Do you think it would be safe in the short term? I'm thinking it may be a couple weeks before I can get to a good tuner... most likely, I will not put the pulley on until the same time I can tune, tho.

One more... Tig... what size serpentine did you order with the 3.12" pulley?

serpentine belt i got was the Gates MicroV 93 inch, i cant remember the exact number, i think booger posted it a while back. i can get the box out of the basement and get it if youd like, pm me.

another thing, be careful when installing the new pulley, the letters are on the wrong side, if you install it like the factory one, it wont be in line with the other pulleys.

the Gates micro v belt # is...K060930....But I would stay with the GoodYear belt [93 inch ] . I still have the Gates on , but it may be to thick and stiff for how many and how sharp the bends are .

booger...

So are you saying I can use the same Goodyear Gatorback belt as comes with the kit or are you saying that I would use a slightly shorter Goodyear Gatorback? If I can keep the same belt, I'll do that since I always have a spare in my car just in case.

you might be able to....but the goodyear does come in different sizes. If you get your original to work I would think it wouldnt have much adjustment left though....the belt that come with the kit is #4060935...93.5 inches

I don't get it. Why not order the 34-tooth cog pulley instead? Installation is no more difficult, it costs less, and you don't need a new serpentine belt...

zimbo, i dont remember why i went this route, there was a reason, i went thru all this a while back during those talks with forced and some others, i cant remember tho, maybe it was a warranty issue, i dont think my serp pulley had paint. maybe that was it.

hmm.... McDuck thinks..... what if you put on the 34-tooth pulley on the back of the jack shaft AND the 3.12" or 2.87" on the front of the jack shaft?

another way to still utilize the stock belt is to get a larger diameter tensioner pulley...(gatorbacks are FAR better than gates...even tho i have gates at the moment, they micro-slip).....

for the 312 pull we really need a 93" 6 rib.....

for the 287 pull, well, im guessing 92.3 or 92.6, but have no idea if you could even get goodyear to make one...

i know have four belts.... (believe in spares too), and two of em are for a pulley i dont even use.....

anyone need a 93.5" (or two)???

steve poses a good idea...

remember, the SMALLER the serp-side pulley, the easier we will initiate beltslip (micro or macro)......

i would think (maybe) the one series smaller will be okay, but any smaller than that, and i think the cogger pulley is the way to go....

i was also told that V would not honor the 3 year warranty with the cog change, but im not at all concerned with any warranties anyway (nr do ithink any of us are)..

the one thing thats for sure::: the oem kit comes with a weinie of a setup (boost-wise) and sghould have the 3.12 out of the box!!... i mean, geeze, its tooned so rich already, i bet it may have been originally designed for such!!
