Default Vortech boost poll

Could you guys with Vortech and headers , please post your boost level .........and guys that have changed pulleys [3.125 serp or 34 teeth cog pulleys ] with headers post there boost level . Vortech is telling me that the reason Im only getting 7lb's of boost with stock pulley and 7.6 boost with 3.125 serp pulley...is that I have headers and exhaust . I could use some proof that my blower is weak . I think if I can find 5 or so people that are making good boost with both pulleys they may change there mind . Your help with this would be greatl....Thanks...Bill

I have noticed that my boost is slightly stronger with high flow cats over straight pipes.

booger...

I have plenum, cams, headers, cats, & exhaust and was told that my Vortech is making 9-9.5lbs of boost. Still haven't verified this myself. That is what the tuner told me when they dialed in my 425rwhp, tho.

8lbs with the 333 pull

a tick over 9lbs with the 312

oem headers on both pulls...

i DID only get 7lbs with the stock cats (and remainder exhaust) and w/o tensioning the serp. belt (and for somereason, the other oem belts were loose i was told)

I've not hooked up the laptop to the car to run the SS software, but from the gauge I'd say I got around 7lbs at the redline with the straight pipes and 8lbs with the high flow cats.

LET me also state this....

i havent hooked up the Lapper either...

these values are per the boost gauge only... (but the changes in the readings are still proportionate, regardless of their true value....

I had DC Sport headers installed over the weekend. My boost still goes up to 10psi at 7100rpms with the 34-tooth cog pulley. The car sounds mean as hell now. It's downright scary.

steve-

you're my boost-hero....

the mere fact that your (aka OUR) motor will swallow 10lbs of boost at 7100 rpm (pretty good piston speed, imo) gives me hope with the 287 mod i am doin tomorrow.... (tuning not avail for a few days following, so i wont be able to make any full-pulls...)

I gott a figure mine out, I can barely make it to 7psi. Usually I end up at about 6.7 accoring to my electronic Zeitronix boost gauge. (peak and hold function)
Also, I gotta tune this thing! I'm getting Af's down to 9.6 sometimes, and 10.4 alot of the time.

Hmmm. I have to amend my previous statement. My R4 recording shows a max boost of 10.0 with the 34-tooth cog pulley at 7100 rpms. However, after installing headers my wideband 02 was reporting rich conditions. I went to the dyno and the tuning shop boost gauge shows that my boost appears to have dropped a small amount across the board (the SS box sees only slightly less boost than before).

The tuner's boost gauge reads about 7.2 psi (versus around 8.1 before) compared to the SS box reading of 10.0 (versus up to 10.5 previously).

After retuning (less fuel was required for some odd reason--I'm guessing it's because the FMU is boost based and boost has changed), I'm now getting about the same HP as before the headers--but with less boost. Also, EGTs are measurably lower even though it was very hot today (about 90 degrees in the dyno area).

Based on this, I'm inclined to try the 3.13 jack pulley in combination with the 34-tooth cog pulley and pull timing up top as well as shift a bit earlier than redline.

i also found a 92.3" belt, that is damn near perfect for this size...

wow...

double digits BEFORE redline.....

neat!!

Hey Zimbo,
You said your SS box reads like 10, while the tuners boost gauge reads 7.2? that's a huge difference.
What does the boost gauge in your car read?

ZIMBO... I ask again... do you have a part number on the 34-tooth pulley?

I can't find it on any supercharger parts site. The 35mm width pulleys only seem to go up to 32-tooth. There is a 50mm that is 34-tooth. Are you using that one? Or did you find a 35mm 34-tooth somewhere?

I need to know... I'm going to go 34-tooth & 3.12" serpentine belt, but don't want to order until I can get both.

Zimbo....where did your Dyno guy hook up his boost reading from ? My dyno showed exactly what the SS box got...7.6 lb's I know my gauge would read 8.5 lb's Just as I was letting off the gas...it would jump up from 7.5 to 8.5 as I let off the gas...I got my gauge hooked up on the back side of the plenum ...on the throttle body...think thats why I get the jump up

The 34-tooth pulley is definitely bigger but alas I have no P/N. Seems like Brian is the salesperson I spoke with. He'll know.
