Default Calling All Vortech 350z Crawford Plenum Cars

I am seriously considering a Vortech Kit, but I want to keep both my crawford strut bar and plenum.

I started messin' 'round with another variety of Crawford's strut bar that might clear the Vortech pullies, but alas I have not taken the plunge directly.

I am not lookin' to get into the lucrative 350z mod business - I was hoping if there's enough interest out there we could demonstrate a case for Doug's crew to take this design forward to production.

I'm thinking maybe 7/8 inch or 1 inch 7075 T6 aluminum plate (if it fits under the hood - might need to be beveled on front edge), cut into the following shape. Doug could adjust his mounting plates accordingly.....

Please chime if you are at all interested.

Also for those that are doers and not just talkers, i.e. with the Vortech on their Z, does this at least look like it might fit?....

Thanks,

Chris

Default schematic

Just in case anyone with the Vortech on their Z wants to trace out the "prototype" on some cardboard to help check fitment......

I'm interested. I spoke to Doug about prototyping one of these in the past, but we never got measurements... and to be honest, he sounded very busy with other development.

I'm now working with someone else to design something very similar to what you have proposed here. Should be done in the next 2-3 months

Like you, I am considering the Vortech, but don't want to lose my strut bar or Crawford Plenum.

Default Measurements??

Hey McDuck,

Any chance we might compare notes?? How close are these measurements to the ones you and your guy have?

We're actually bouncing around one that only has one bend on each side.

Rather than this...

something more like this (only with the angles not so exaggerated)...

Default Bends are bad

Just to clarify, the design I am proposing has no bends in the metal, as this would sacrifice rigidity. The piece would be one flat piece of structural aircraft-grade aluminum that could be "angled down to allow fitment under the hood.

I have extended the curve or "bend" by a 1/4 inch to allow for the angling of the piece to clear the front of the plenum. I may just order the aluminum stock and give this a try.....if I can find the time.

For me it's a Catch 22 - ideally I'd have the Vortech under the hood, but I don't wanna commit 'till I gotta solution for the Plenum....
