Default Can you do this Vortech Pulley swap?

okay... don't flame me... this may not even be feasible, but I'm not at home where I can just go to my garage to look at my engine.

In a pulley drive set up, the general rule is ... the larger the drive pulley, the faster the idler pulley will spin and/or the smaller the idler pulley, the faster it will spin. I'm talking about belt travel, not actual rotational velocity which stays constant.

So, to get your SC to spin quicker on the Vortech, everyone has been looking at placing a smaller serpentine pulley (idler pulley) or a larger cogged pulley (drive pulley).

Okay... let's say, I replace the cogged 32-tooth pulley with the 34-tooth pulley. I will see gains... this has been proven by Zimbo and a couple of others here. Has anyone looked at replacing the pulley on the actual supercharger (cogged idler pulley) with a smaller cogged pulley? Is there a smaller cogged pulley even available?

Yes I would guess they have smaller SC pulleys .The reason we changed the serp pulley was to keep the warranty .But Vortech knows about it now and they drop it to 1 year . Unless you buy it from another source [Grubb's ] but you will pay extra for it . The serp pulley is the easiest to change out . To get the 3.33 serp off , you need to losen up the top 3 bolt that hold the blower to the bracket . Pry the blower over far enough to slip the pulley off .You will need to go to a 93 inch belt also . Yes you will see gains from either pulley you choose to go with . Blower will spool up faster and boost will also go up at the top end . I gained extra boost across the whole rpm range.............Bill

Thanks, booger... I actually found that there is a 27-tooth that is a replacement for the 28-tooth on the Supercharger itself.

mcduck is now thinking the fall HP project may include a three pulley swap... mix in some bottom end... and see if the Vortech can crank out close to 1 bar of boost! WOOHOO!!!

MC duck is a wise man....

MC duck also needs to find/manufacture a n external wastegate, to relieve the near 17 lbs of boost down to a 12 lb charge....

this would allow MC duck to have the excellent advantages of esemes insta-spool® (lol) and still keep the valvecovers from shooting thru the hood....

i am SURE there's a way to fab. an inline wastegate, so you could run MUCH more efficeint pulleys, and still bleed-off unwanted charges (could be very similar to the BOV, and could be welded into the intake line, somewhere before the MAF i suppose)

if i were still a vortech man, that'd be my NEXT situatiuon.....

NTM, anyone running well over ~9 lbs of boost oughtta look at the vortech MONDO BOV, as it has a higher rating (lbs).....

so sez the birdie.........
