Default Tranny went kursplash today!!!

My wife took the G today to work. She drove it for about 45 mins, later she headed home. About halfway home she called me and said she was having “serious problems with the coup.” 30 seconds later she was panicking because she thought she was about to break down in the middle of an 8 lane highway in Houston. Luckilly (or by the grace of god), she was able to make it to a gas station. I came as quick as I could.

When I got there, I checked on my wife and she was fine. Then I looked at my coupe. The engine looked fine, but it had vomited massive amounts of transmission fluid. We had it towed to the dealership I purchased it from (Southwest Infiniti). I told them everything about the coupe and they seemed to be very cool about the SC and Borla. I made sure they knew these upgrades were installed by an Infiniti dealership.

Currently we have a loaner car (G35 Sedan), and I expect to get a call tomorrow afternoon. I will keep you updated.

I can not imagine how my mods could cause this problem, but we will see. Wish me luck!!!

No, they'll take care of you there - that's where I have all my service performed even though I didn't buy my car there (it's about an hour closer) - make sure and deal w/ Cal, he's super cool about everything...

I wish you the best of luck with everything...

Tommy,

There was no sign of this development. Everything was fine yestday when I was running it hard.

The only thing different than normal was the fact that I ran over some 18 wheeler tire tread yesterday on the freeway. It looked harmless enough, but when my tires went between it I heard a loud smack. At the time I did not think anything of it, but now I wonder.

It will be interesting what SW infiniti has to say.

Hey bro, you know that at least a big %of the 03's models of the Z's had bad tranny isssues. I would check that out before they blame it on the mod's. In this case is very hard to believe that it had to do anything with the SC, unless your wife was doing some hardcore driving

BWZA,

Jeff is handeling my coupe. I hope he is as cool as Cal.

Hey, since you are from El Campo, do you know a girl named Jennifer Luco. I dated her when I was a teen about 11 year ago. I have always wondered what happended to her.

As bad as this sounds I hope you hit something and it punctured the transmission. I would hate to think the transmissions could not handle the hp we are generating. Another member on this forum was going to ask a high ranking Infiniti rep the actual specs our AT transmissions can deal with, I will let you know. Please keep us/me informed as to the outcome of the dealership. Also: If by chance you get crap from the Houston dealership I would have John from Grubbs get involved IMO. Good Luck !!

Tommy,

My first call (after my tow truck call) was to John, to his knowledge, he has heard of no issues with At tranny's with S/C's.

Given the experiences of so many others on this forum, I will have a hard time believing that this failure had anything to do with my mods. Both John and Brad, said they could not imagine how someone could atribute this problem with my modest engine mods.

POPA,

I was not aware of this issue, but I will definintely keep it in mind now. I will keep everyone updated on this issue. I will continue to research this issue if Infiniti starts to give me grief about my mods.

Hey man, I actually got my tranny replaced. My Input Shaft Bearing was messed up. I kinda got screwed over it because they charged me to put everythinh back together. The reason I got charged was for the removal and installation of the wastegates and downpipe, which I went ahead and fixed some exhaust leaks that I had kinda saved some money.

Hope this helps

Josh

P.S
I also have a 6MT, I'm not sure about the 5AT having problems. Plus I'm pretty sure our trannys hold up enough power.

Darn it, very sorry to hear that. I am getting paranoid about the tranny now.... BTW, did you ever check the AT fluid condition (before the incident) to see if there were any carbon deposits (from worn/slipping clutchpacks).

Gurgen,

I did not check any fluids. I was planning on taking the coupe in for its first checkup and oil change today. However, my wife had other plans. She insisted on taking it to work, (I wonder if God is trying to teach her a lesson LOL).

BTW, does an Auto tranny have a clutch. I thought a torque converter replaced a clutch. Just asking... not sure myself.

POPA,

That is interesting. I have always thought my tranny did not shift right. When I am at WOT I and in manual mode, I have to shift at about 6200 rpms or I will hit the 6800 rpm rev limiter before it shifts. Do you think this issue has anything to do with a shift bearing?

the tranny most definitely does have clutchpacks ... they are a little different (wet clutches). Hence, examining the AT fluid which i do at every oil change (at least) is a good indication of what is happening to the clutchpacks. Also, you can sniff the AT fluid (not for too long ) and check for a burned smell.

gurgen,

Thats good information. I guess I need to read up on how tranny's work. Truthfully, I did not think this would be an issue I was dealing with yet. I am hoping this issue is a result of something other than my mods.

I'm sure you saw this but if your tranny isn't covered there is a guy selling a used 5AT tranny. (kevin P.)

I would be interested to hear what they say was the problem as I have a 5AT as well.
