Unhappy "courtesy" nissan - MY experiences with them...

hey fellas.....

just wanted to share my experience(s) and dealing(s) with Courtesy Nissan of Texas, with you.

I originally purchased the Nismo Low Temp thermostat from Coyrtesy Nissan (CN), and received it on the 12th of may. It was then installed on my G on or about the 21st of May. I have the docuemnts for the entire process, including infiniti paperwork. (mileage out = 1100)

On or about the 3rd of July my car began to run VERY hot..... i decided to make an emergency appt. with my infiniti dealer (luckily they're close-by), and while i was driving there, my car shot up to the "H" on the gauge (my dealer is only 1.3 miles east of my house)....

After diagnosis of the car (including the consultII), the dealer called me to inform me that the thermo is bad. (mileage in 1867).

I promptly telephone "CN" and relay my situation to them. (07/03/04) . After a bit of direction as to what documentation i would need for the failed unit (install papers, dated, tech notes, dated, original receipt, dated) i was told to return the unit to "CN". Wanting the believed 'added' bonus cooling of the Nismo unit again, i foolishly decided to re-purchase from them. (plus i felt a customer-dealer relationship was now established, so i wanted to keep that. I was not able to get the thermo for the same price as before, but decided to pay the 149 for it anyway (originally got it for 125). Needing the thermo right - away, i requested overnight shipping of the unit, and was charged an additional 28$ to do so.

All went well with the shipping and the installation of the new thermo, and the car ran beautifully again. About three days later i packaged up the defective thermo and photocopied all the documents, as requested.

Today i received a phonecall from randy at CN, informing me that they will be returning the thermo to me.

quote:::

"the nismo products carry no warranty whatsoever, and are not guranteed" (wow)
"if it were covered, which it isn't, i installed it inot the wrong engine, as it is designed for the Z car, not the infiniti"
(another wow)
"even if it were warrantied, and installed in the correct car, it still isnt cover-able, as the vortech voids the warranty, since it goes at a higher rpm"
(wha??)

:::endquote...

perhaps this is reasonable, perhaps it's not, but i feel that a mechanicl part like this should have some implied guarantee from defect, (lasted a measly 700 miles, and 42 days).....

sorry for the long post, about a topic that is prolly of little concern, but i just want to let you guys (and gals) know of my dealings with "courtesy" nissan of texas. I spent alot of money with them, in regards to what i got, and feel that they mislead me....

Keep in mind, if you buy any Nismo parts from them, REGARDLESS of the nature of the reason, you are left to deal with it yourself; they do not guarantee the parts will even work correctly. (guess they could just resell my thermo then)

Im not sure what my next action will be, but i am open for suggestions, as always

Im not sure about you, but i dont expect much these days, anymore. But when im told "a", and given "b", i have real issues....

hopefully i can save at least one or two of you the trouble of dealing with CN. Then, in a round-a-bout way, i guess i am menatlly compensated...

Wow that is absurd. I purchased a Nismo radiator cap from a local Nissan delaer when I had my Spec V. Its supposed to hold 1.3 bar (roughly 17 PSI IIRC) anyways it ended up holding 37 PSI and keeping REALLY hot water in the block. This caused the motor severly overheat. Warped head, etc. Well when the tech found out it was the Nismo cap that did it he asked where I got it (That dealer). They put a stock cap on and got my motor replaced under warranty. They even gave me a credit for the cost of the cap. $40~ at the time. No reason why Courtesy shouldnt help you out here.

Complain in writing. Forget emails and phone calls.

Copy Nissan Corporate on all correspondance.

Dealerships take letters (and faxes) very seriously.

I sent my dealer a fax after my complaints went nowhere, I had it resolved later that day when the Dealership General Manager called me back to make good.

Try it, what does it take to send a fax?

Good luck

Scott, did you pay for it with a credit card?
if so get your cc company involved.
they will take care of it for you.
do not except return of the part.

I have gone thru this with many parts.

See ya

to further add to the case, i was told the nismo thermo is NOT for the G, but instead for the different motor of the Z...

and here's their website, stating so....

NOT!

they (randy) actually told me that i had installed this into a car that they dont specify it to be used for....

The 350Z and G35 share the same exact motor(VQ35DE).

Thats unbelievable! This is an example of how big business takes advantage of the consumers. It's a shame that Nissan operates like this. Again it's all about the bottom line. The general manager is aware of whats going on...it's about money and who they think they can get away with. Again sorry for the long post hope you send letters and faxes, the sqeaky wheel gets the oil.

Even if they wanted to take the absurd position that installing a part and it failing after a few days is warranty work (for all you know this could have been damaged in shipping!) "Courtesy" doubled their f!ck-up by telling you to return it, have you buy another, and then say oops

Don't accept the return shipment!

i really want to have a agreeable resolve with them. this simple (yet important) part has made me literlly sick with worry. From the moment it failed, (sending my car to overheat/limp mode)and then the moment i got the phonecall yesterday, i have been upset...

i still hold out hope for them to do the *right* thing here, and step up as the big business they are.

maybe im too optimistic? (but hopeful, nonetheless).. i even apologized to randy (CN) on the phone for my upset tone, as i didnt ant to make matters worse...

i NEVER woulda bought another part from them, had they told me it was under no guarantee to be free from defect, and working correctly.... (wish i could prove this somehow), especially since i had my 1K+ mile old oem unit IN HAND.......

what a mess..........

It's an R-Tune part. I was under the impression no R-Tune part was covered under warranty.

Yeah, it says right on their website that R-tune parts are not warranted. However, due to the short time frame you had it, I would say it was defective from the factory, and should be exchanged evenly.

meaning they are not even guaranteed to work??

there surely should be a 'free from defect' on this part............ (i only put 700 miles on the thing, in a month's time period),

the real issue nowis that i was told it would be returnable, when i purchased it , again....

You should ask to have this thread moved to the Vendor Feedback forum. That may also bring it to Courtesy's attention.

i wanted this thread to be posted here, as i feel i know some of the FI guys the best. I wanted them to be aware of the treatment i have received from CN, and hopefully help them avoid making the same mistake (in buying anything from CN).

i also know that this thread has been viewd by CN (at least once today), and (as i feared) is of little interest or concern to them.
