Default Where to buy a motor?

Hey, I am looking into building a motor for forced induction. I want to start out with a motor other than the one in my car. Does anyone know of where I can buy maby a used motor, or out of a junkyard. I know that these cars are new so its going to be hard to find one but I have heard of a fewpeople obtaining them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Zach

I am in NJ and have access to a few, Shoot me an email and we can talk. They usually run in the low 3's for a complete long block..

Don't forget to search for Infiniti G35 too. There appear to be more of them in the wrecking yards, and cheaper too.

i think it will be better if you buy it at that dealer i paid $1650.00 for an empty block and the crank new from the dealer. no i am on the process on making the pistons and getting the rods for the block and get it ready to swap it.

I called a few places earlier today. I found several nearby complete, undamaged engines with around 6000 miles on them for $1800.

Default motor

going with a low mileage junker is the way to go. When buying
parts direct from Nissan, you need alot more than a block and crank. The heads ,covers , pump, etc. etc. etc. all add up to a pile of parts. The attractive point to a full "separate" long block is that you can build it up on the side and when swap time comes , its nearly a no brainer. If you need to strip you old motor guts before you close up the new , the install can be far, far more cumbersome and lengthly.

For some reason NC seems to have an inordinate Qty of wrecked G35s and Zs in the junkyard, go figure??

yup.. seen plenty in the $1400-$1800 range via that search website mentioned above. That is what I plan on doing once my forged parts get here.

Try Z1 Motorsports in GA. They have a 4 or 5 parts cars. Their website is www.300zx.com . I dont know how much it would cost to ship to you but its worth a try. Oh yeah, lorca@z1 on here works at Z1. If you call, ask for Lorca or John.

We will be doing built motor exchanges soon. Preliminary pricing is $6000 and includes Z1 designed Wiseco Pistons, Carillo rods, 5 angle valve job and mild port / polish.

Lorca, what are some of the specs on these? What is the expected HP, TQ, etc ratings of these motors. Depending on the specs, this could be another alternative to going with a SC or TT setup! I think many people would like to know some numbers.

Zach,

These motors are meant to be used with FI as the pistons will be 8.5/1 & 9/1 compression since that is where our experience lies. Withe forged pistons and rods we expect these motors to easily withstand 25 psi which appears to be at the limit of the TT kits on the market.

I see the engine's for sale, but wonder how much of a chance you will be taking when buying them. All I really want is the bottom end.

These motors come from cars that typically have less than 20K on them so they are generally in good shape. Also they are being completely rebuilt with the process involved in the installation of the rods and pistons (.020 overbore), so there really is no chance for cylinder wall damage.

However, we can do a custom built short block if that is all someone wants.

PM me with some numbers of what you can do, and I will be happy to order a motor from you. This seems to be the best way to go about getting a motor rebuilt. I will be running high boost in no time with this. Can you tell me what kind of other stuff you can do to it that will help and how much it will cost extra? Thanks.
