Default Vortech not reachin 8 psi

I haven't been able to get my vortech upto 8 psi. My belts are tight, I've tightened all my screw clamps and the highest psi I've gotten is 6.7psi.

the pressure builds progressively and doesn't plateau like you would expect if there was a leak.

Anyone else having problems like this?

Have you done a recording with a laptop hooked up to the ss box ? Are you going by what your gauge reads ? Have changed the exhaust ? Guess we need a little more info

CaneZMD,

My boost numbers are similar. Might have gotten above 7.0 on a couple of dyno pulls. However, average is in the 6.5 to 7.0 range.

Have been doing a lot of pulls on the dyno here in Albuquerque. Before the "tuner" figured out everything there was to know about the R4 program, switched the washer in the FMU from #8 to #6. While it did reduce the "rich" situation up top, I anticipate going back to the #8 in an attempt to smooth out the A/F at 11.5 from 4000 - 7000 rpms. Got a lot of "feedback" from "booger" to get where I am today.

Have you done anything with your ECU yet (i.e. "L" Flash")?

Currently Max POWER = 333.7 Max TORQUE = 282.7

RPM / HP / TQ / AF

4000 191 250 13.35
4500 226 263 13.00
5000 265 278 12.23
5500 290 277 11.66
6000 300 262 10.60
6500 333 270 11.07
7000 319 239 11.03

boost readings are from my laptop hooked up to my zeitronix gauge. I have borla cat-back, kinetix high flow cats, and kinetix plenum also.

I'm getting ready to tune the r4 software, but I'd like to get the boost thing squared away first. Thanks.

Hook your laptop up to the ss box .Do a couple live recordings and see what the ss box is reading boost at . Your gauge may not be right . Make sure your vacuum lines are not pinched , to your gauge and to the ss box . If your not sure how to do it , I can PM you my phone number and help you out.....Bill

Westpak, What's up? I'll have to go to a meet sometime. I saw you got the greddy kit, that's awesome. I need to tune my kit, 'cause it's actually gotten richer since I installed it, down to 10.2 sometimes.

Booger, I'll hook it up today. I need to pick up the cable. I'm scared I'm gonna screw some settings up or something though. I also could use some fuel and timing maps if you have them. If you have someone's from florida, that would be great. Thanks for your help. You can pm me, that's fine.

First we have to find out where your boost went . Thats more than likely why your running richer than before . You boost and fuel are on a different curve in your maps .

I looked at my old curves from right after install, and I was still only getting to like 6.5 pounds, but I was running about .3-.4 leaner. It was between 10.5 and 11.5, now it is between 10.1 and 10.9. Maybe the mysterious ECU compensation happened?

What should I aim for as far as A/F anyway? I want to be pretty safe, I was thinking about 11.6 up to 6k, then down to 10.9 or so to redline.

CaneZMD,

I am going to put back the #8 washer next week and go back on the dyno. I am going to strive for mid 11's. I am close! Drop into the 11'a at 5300, high 10's to mid 10's at 5900 and back into the 11's at 6500.

This car is awesome with 100% throttle and rev limiter at 7200.

At what RPM do you drop into the 11's?

I have the same problem as you. I think its due to the weather. Wait till it gets about 60 degrees outside. I bet you 20 bucks that u'll get 8+ psi.

When I first installed my kit during winter, I was getting 8-8.5 psi. Lately over summer, I've been getting only 6.8-7psi. Just a couple of weeks ago while I was driving up to NY, the temp dropped to around 65 degrees after a storm. I was able to hit 7.8 psi that day.

New problem. I bought the serial cable and the male/female portion is correct, but the male portion of the cable that plugs into the female connector on the SS box also has the nuts like the female vortech connector. Do I have to dremel the nuts off of the SS box or cable to make it fit? Did you guys have this problem?

Had the same problem! Went to Radio Shack, explained the problem and they had the solution.

I didn't have a problem with Radio Shack cable. Plugged it into the SS box and then to a lap top with Windows. After tuner figured out R4 program, no problem. But removing the nuts might be the fastest solution. Could have done that I guess with those cables I returned to Staples, Office Max and Office Depot.

Those nuts don't unscrew--they just break off and then the metal contact cover falls off. Be careful.
